EXODUS: New Details Revealed for the Sci-Fi RPG from Former BioWare Developers, Store Pages Now Live
Archetype Entertainment, the studio founded by former BioWare developers, has released a detailed Founders Q&A video sharing new insights about its upcoming sci-fi RPG EXODUS. The studio also launched official store pages on all major platforms, including Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation, and Xbox. Players can now wishlist the title ahead of its highly anticipated release.
In the Q&A session, Studio Co-Founder and General Manager Chad Robertson and Game Director Chris King discussed the creative inspirations behind EXODUS. They cited Mass Effect for its rich storytelling and meaningful choices, Guerrilla’s Horizon series for its elemental combat systems, and Metroid Prime for its sense of exploration and isolation.
The developers explained that EXODUS is being designed to deliver a player-driven experience filled with moral depth, consequence, and emotional connection. The studio aims to capture the spirit of classic narrative RPGs while expanding their scope and immersion.
The team shared new information about EXODUS’s weapon system, which follows a “Swiss Army knife” design concept. Because space travelers must manage limited inventory on long journeys, every tool and weapon serves multiple purposes. One example is the Recycler, a hybrid device that acts as both a salvage tool and a firearm capable of using scavenged materials as ammunition. This approach emphasizes adaptability and resourcefulness while minimizing inventory micromanagement.
Archetype confirmed that stealth mechanics are fully supported in EXODUS. Players can choose to engage enemies quietly, face them in open combat, or negotiate through dialogue. The game’s companions and Aegis suits are designed to complement different playstyles, ensuring flexibility in how missions are approached.
Combat encourages strategy and improvisation. Early encounters involve human factions and Celestial Constructs, ancient robotic sentinels guarding lost technologies. Once players gain access to a spaceship, new dangers emerge, including the Rot, a mysterious corrupting force that infects technology, wildlife, and even planetary ecosystems.
Players take on the role of Jun Aslan, a protagonist who begins as an ordinary traveler with humble origins. Over the course of the story, Jun’s importance to humanity gradually becomes clear. At the heart of the narrative are Ancient Remnant artifacts, powerful relics capable of altering civilizations. Initially pursued to save Jun’s homeworld, these artifacts ultimately raise complex moral questions about power and responsibility.
Side missions are crafted to build stronger relationships with companions and expand the universe rather than serve as filler content. Archetype emphasizes that every choice will influence both personal connections and the broader fate of humanity.
The Founders Q&A marks the most significant update since the game’s first gameplay trailer in December 2024. Archetype Entertainment confirmed that additional updates will arrive later this year, with speculation that EXODUS could reappear at The Game Awards 2025, where it was first revealed in 2023.
With its combination of cinematic storytelling, branching choices, and deep moral themes, EXODUS continues to shape up as one of the most promising upcoming RPGs in development.
