EA Releases Major Battlefield 2042 Update as Battlefield 6 Beta Wraps Up
The Battlefield 6 open beta has officially ended, closing just hours before this writing. With the full release set for October 10, 2025, players now face a short wait before diving back into the large-scale battles that the franchise is known for. To help fans bridge the gap, Electronic Arts has rolled out a substantial update for Battlefield 2042, offering new content and rewards tied directly into the upcoming release.
The newly released Update 9.2 introduces Iwo Jima, one of the most iconic maps in Battlefield history. First appearing in Battlefield 1942 and later in Battlefield V and Battlefield 1943, the map has now been brought to 2042 with updated visuals and gameplay refinements. Players will storm the beaches, fight through bunkers and trenches, and contend with an active volcano looming in the background for a dramatic, large-scale battle experience.
In addition to the map, the update adds two new weapons:
KFS2000 assault rifle
Lynx sniper rifle
Two new aircraft are also now available:
A-10 Warthog
SU-25TM Frogfoot
Road to Battlefield 6 Battle Pass
EA has also launched a special free battle pass called the Road to Battlefield Battle Pass, which includes 60 tiers of cosmetics celebrating previous Battlefield entries, from Bad Company 2 to Battlefield V. This progression will carry players right up to Battlefield 6’s release.
According to EA, players who engage with the new Battlefield 2042 content will also unlock exclusive rewards in Battlefield 6, though the publisher has not yet detailed what these will include. Alongside the new content, Update 9.2 features numerous bug fixes, balance changes, and stability improvements, further refining the 2042 experience.
For those missing the thrill of Battlefield 6’s beta, this update provides a solid reason to jump back into 2042 and experience a mix of nostalgia and new content while waiting for the franchise’s next major chapter in October.
Will you revisit Battlefield 2042 with this update, or are you saving all your hype for Battlefield 6’s October launch?
