Dune: Awakening Adds Free Story Chapter and Paid DLC The Lost Harvest in September,

Funcom has announced that the first major content update for its MMO survival game Dune: Awakening will arrive on September 10, 2025, bringing with it a free story chapter and a paid DLC expansion called The Lost Harvest. Players eager to test the desert survival experience before then can also take advantage of a free trial running until August 24, 2025.

Chapter 2: Free Story Expansion and New Features

The free story update, known as Chapter 2, will be available to all existing players at no additional cost. Alongside narrative progression, it introduces a suite of community-requested features:

  • Player re-customization tools, including new hairstyles and tattoos

  • New contracts and dynamic encounters

  • Additional armor archetypes

This expansion aims to deepen character personalization and variety in gameplay while continuing the story-driven survival journey on Arrakis.

Paid DLC: The Lost Harvest

Launching alongside Chapter 2 is The Lost Harvest, a standalone DLC priced at $12.99 USD (included in the game’s Season Pass). The expansion includes its own narrative arc and a wide array of content rewards, such as:

  • Treadwheel vehicle for desert exploration

  • Three new Imperial Testing Stations to raid

  • Five base decorations, four weapon skins, and two armor skins

  • Dune Man-themed building pieces

  • A thumper emote

These additions complement the survival and base-building aspects of the game while offering exclusive cosmetics and exploration opportunities.

Free Trial Details

For players who have yet to experience Dune: Awakening, Funcom has launched a free trial available until August 24, 2025. The trial grants 10 hours of gameplay within the Hagga Basin region. While certain areas such as Harko Village, Arrakeen, and the Deep Desert remain locked, players can carry over most progress to the full game if they purchase it afterward.

Carried-over progress includes story advancement, character levels, skills, tech points, and inventory items, with the exception of bases, vehicles, and any Solaris above the 10,000 cap. Trial participants who upgrade to the full version will also receive exclusive cosmetic rewards.

A Crucial Update for Arrakis Veterans

Dune: Awakening launched earlier this year, and consistent players have already exhausted much of the base content. This first major update is expected not only to add new experiences but also to rebalance core gameplay systems, addressing ongoing feedback from the community. For longtime settlers of Arrakis, the September update will test whether Funcom can keep the sands shifting with enough variety and challenge.

Will you be jumping into the free trial to test life on Arrakis, or are you already preparing for The Lost Harvest DLC in September?
