Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core Heads to Steam Early Access on May 20, 2026

Ghost Ship Games has officially confirmed that Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core will enter Steam Early Access on May 20, 2026, giving the co op shooter franchise another major expansion after years of community momentum built around the original Deep Rock Galactic. The date was announced during the Future Games Show Spring Showcase 2026, and Ghost Ship also confirmed it through the game’s official Steam news update.

Unlike the original Deep Rock Galactic, which built its identity around mission based co op mining and class teamwork, Rogue Core pushes the formula into a more replay driven structure. The official Steam page describes it as a 1 to 4 player co op FPS action roguelite with procedurally generated caves, elite dwarven Reclaimers, and hostile alien threats spread across mining facilities on Hoxxes IV. That means Ghost Ship is not abandoning the series’ core strengths, but instead reworking them into a format built around more varied run based progression and repeatable session design.

That shift makes sense for the franchise. Deep Rock Galactic already thrives on procedural spaces, co operation, and unpredictable mission flow, so moving into roguelite territory feels like a natural evolution rather than a forced spin off. The official description also confirms that players will be reclaiming lost dig sites and fighting through dangerous Core Spawn infestations, reinforcing that Rogue Core still wants to preserve the tone, setting, and “Rock and Stone” identity that made the main game so enduring. This is an inference based on the official Steam description and Ghost Ship’s release messaging.

The timing is also notable for the wider DRG universe. By the time Rogue Core launches into Early Access, it will become the second Deep Rock Galactic spin off to arrive within less than a year, following Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor, which broadened the franchise into a different genre path of its own. That makes Rogue Core less of a side experiment and more of a sign that Ghost Ship and Coffee Stain now view Deep Rock Galactic as a platform capable of supporting multiple gameplay styles without losing its brand strength. This is an editorial conclusion drawn from the pace of spin off releases and the official Rogue Core rollout.

Steam currently lists Rogue Core for Q2 2026, which aligns with the now confirmed May 20 Early Access launch date, and the store page says the title is available to wishlist now. For long time fans of Deep Rock Galactic, that means the wait is no longer abstract. Ghost Ship has now attached a real date to one of its most closely watched projects, and the next phase of the franchise is nearly here.

What do you think, can Rogue Core become the next long term Deep Rock obsession, or do you still prefer the original game’s mission based co op structure?
