Death Stranding 2 On the Beach PC Version Rated by ESRB and Will Be Published by Sony

The PC edition of Death Stranding 2 On the Beach has received an official rating from the Entertainment Software Rating Board in the United States, strongly indicating that a PC launch is approaching. An announcement could be imminent, possibly at The Game Awards, which are hosted by Geoff Keighley and include both award presentations and high profile game reveals. The Game Awards 2025 will air on Thursday, December 11.

The ESRB listing also offers a notable confirmation. Death Stranding 2 On the Beach will be published on PC by Sony Interactive Entertainment, the same publisher responsible for the PlayStation 5 version. This differs from the original Death Stranding on PC, which was published by 505 Games. The shift is interesting because Kojima Productions previously acquired the publishing rights from Sony and therefore had the option to self publish the sequel. It appears the studio may still prefer relying on Sony’s publishing infrastructure, possibly due to the significant resources and expertise required for a global PC release.

The decision also raises curiosity about whether Death Stranding 2 On the Beach will eventually arrive on Xbox as its predecessor did. If that happens, it will be important to see whether Sony Interactive Entertainment remains the publisher on that platform as well.

The ESRB rating is M for Mature with classifications including Blood and Gore, Partial Nudity, Strong Language and Violence. This matches the rating assigned to the PlayStation 5 version, which is entirely expected given that both editions are anticipated to share identical content.

Death Stranding 2 On the Beach first launched on June 26, 2025 for PlayStation 5 and quickly achieved strong commercial and critical success. The game sold an estimated one point four million units during its launch month and has been widely praised for expanding the world and narrative foundation established by the original title.

With the ESRB rating now in place, the PC version appears to be nearing the final stages of release preparation. More information is likely to arrive soon as The Game Awards approach.

Do you think Sony publishing the PC version signals a broader strategy shift for PlayStation titles on PC
