Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5 Adds Edgerunners 2, Dual Wielding and Console Mod Support

CD Projekt RED has officially released Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5, introducing new content inspired by Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, expanded combat mechanics, cyberware customization and integrated mod support for consoles. Released on October 22, 2026, the free update delivers one of the game's most substantial content expansions in recent years, giving both new and returning players additional reasons to explore Night City.

Developed in collaboration with Virtuos, the update arrives alongside the second season of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners on Netflix. According to the official patch notes, players can experience Clampdown, a new side quest taking place before the events of the anime. The mission introduces characters including King, Mishuga, Miguel and Emily, with voice performances connected to the animated production. Players can unlock the quest after completing The Heist and 2 gigs for Wakako, eventually earning a 5 piece equipment set inspired by King. A new radio station, HKGN 102.0 FM, also features music from both Edgerunners seasons.

Beyond the anime collaboration, Update 2.5 introduces Double Trouble, a new perk in the Cool attribute tree that allows V to wield 2 Power Pistols or Revolvers simultaneously. Supported by 4 additional perks, the system enables players to combine compatible weapons, including Iconic firearms, while retaining their individual effects. The change creates an entirely new gunslinger playstyle, expanding combat customization beyond the original weapon configurations.

One of the update's most significant additions is mod.io integration, allowing players to browse, download and manage selected community modifications directly through the game's interface. The feature extends modding accessibility to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2, alongside PC and Mac. Available modifications include visual customization, gameplay adjustments and additional content, with more expected over time. However, achievements and trophies are disabled when playing modded saves on consoles, while excessive mod combinations may affect stability.

Character customization also receives a substantial expansion through 5 new Glamdocs scattered throughout Night City. These specialized vendors allow players to change the appearance of Mantis Blades, Gorilla Arms, Monowire and Projectile Launch Systems, offering approximately 40 cyberware styles with additional color customization. New clothing collections, hairstyles and Photo Mode options further expand V's appearance customization.

Exploration receives additional attention through Welcome to Paradise, a new side quest featuring a guided tour narrated by Night City's founder, Richard Night. Players can also discover 12 new Minor Arcana tarot cards, extending the Fool on the Hill questline with additional rewards.

On the technical side, PC players gain official NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 integration, including Dynamic Multi Frame Generation, up to 6X Frame Generation on compatible RTX 50 Series hardware and the second generation Transformer model. These improvements build upon Cyberpunk 2077's earlier DLSS 4 implementation, which introduced improved image reconstruction and advanced frame generation capabilities.

Other technical improvements include enhanced ray tracing performance, PlayStation 5 Pro optimizations, MetalFX Frame Interpolation on Mac, improved HDR rendering and glasses free 3D support for compatible Samsung Odyssey monitors. Console players also gain a Field of View slider, while redesigned save management makes it easier to organize multiple playthroughs.

Update 2.5 is currently available for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Mac through Steam, GOG and Epic Games Store. Nintendo Switch 2 and the Mac App Store version are scheduled to receive the update shortly afterward. The update is free for owners of the base game and does not require Phantom Liberty.

Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5 demonstrates how CD Projekt RED continues expanding Night City beyond its original release, combining meaningful gameplay additions with improvements to long term accessibility and community engagement.

While the Edgerunners 2 crossover introduces additional storytelling opportunities, dual wielding offers a compelling reason to experiment with new combat builds. However, integrated console mod support could become the update's most important feature, bringing community creativity to players who previously had limited access to custom content.

The technical improvements are equally valuable, especially for enthusiasts using demanding path tracing configurations. Nevertheless, 6X Multi Frame Generation should not be confused with 6X higher native rendering performance, as generated frames do not provide equivalent improvements in input responsiveness.

With the Cyberpunk sequel already in development, Update 2.5 reinforces the original game's position as an evolving RPG supported by both its developers and modding community.

What excites you most about Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5: dual wielding, Edgerunners 2 content, cyberware customization or finally having mod support on consoles?
