Bloober Team has officially confirmed that Cronos: Lazarus, the upcoming story expansion for Cronos: The New Dawn, will launch on December 3, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S at $9.99. The Nintendo Switch 2 version will follow in Q1 2027. According to the official announcement, the DLC will introduce a new chapter set before the events of the original game, featuring faster combat, additional abilities, and a deeper exploration of the Collective's secrets.
The expansion places players in control of the Pathfinder, an operative of the Collective whose journey eventually transforms him into the Warden encountered in the original game. Isolated from his former organization, the Pathfinder undertakes a secret mission to revive a lost Essence, putting him directly against the Collective's authority. His actions attract the attention of the Tracker, a relentless hunter specifically deployed to eliminate him. The newly released official story trailer provides a closer look at their confrontation, revealing a darker and more personal chapter within the Cronos universe.
Gameplay also represents a significant departure from the deliberate survival mechanics of Cronos: The New Dawn. As demonstrated in the earlier gameplay reveal, Lazarus introduces teleportation, allowing players to rapidly reposition during encounters, alongside a Decoy ability that distracts enemies while temporarily making the Pathfinder invisible. These mechanics encourage aggressive movement and tactical combinations rather than relying exclusively on careful positioning and ammunition conservation. Players also gain access to the Gladius, a faster and more powerful melee weapon than the original game's dagger, making close combat a more viable strategy.
Despite these additional abilities, Bloober Team emphasizes that the expansion will retain its survival horror identity. The Tracker is designed to challenge the Pathfinder's enhanced mobility and combat capabilities, while more aggressive enemy encounters will demand faster reactions and resource management. The developer is also promising larger confrontations that build upon the original game's unsettling atmosphere and enemy mechanics.
The $9.99 price positions Lazarus as an accessible continuation for existing players, although the expansion requires Cronos: The New Dawn. The Steam DLC page is available for wishlisting ahead of launch. Meanwhile, the original game is receiving discounts of up to 50% across supported digital storefronts during the Halloween promotional period, with availability depending on the platform.
Cronos: Lazarus appears to be taking an interesting direction by shifting the balance from defensive survival horror toward faster, more tactical combat without completely abandoning resource management. Teleportation and temporary invisibility could significantly change how players approach encounters, particularly when combined with a more aggressive melee system. At $9.99, the expansion also presents a relatively accessible opportunity to revisit the Cronos universe while exploring the origins of one of its most intriguing characters. The biggest challenge for Bloober Team will be ensuring that the Pathfinder's increased power does not undermine the tension that made the original game effective.
Does the faster combat and teleportation make Cronos: Lazarus more appealing, or do you prefer the slower survival horror experience of The New Dawn?
