Crimson Moon Launches September 1 for $19.99 With Replayable Gothic Runs

ProbablyMonsters has confirmed that Crimson Moon will launch on September 1, 2026, for PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S. The gothic action RPG will cost $19.99 for the Standard Edition, positioning it as a more compact and accessible alternative to the increasingly expensive premium releases arriving throughout the second half of 2026. ProbablyMonsters describes the project as a focused experience built around repeatable missions, character progression, demanding melee combat, and optional two player online cooperation.

Crimson Moon takes place within Gildenarch, a once sacred city overwhelmed by demons, vampires, undead creatures, and organic abominations known as Hellgrowth. Players control a Nephilim, a violent hybrid between a human and an angel created to defend humanity with supernatural abilities, melee weapons, and temporary celestial transformations. The campaign advances district by district as players reclaim the city and confront the Dead Gods responsible for its continuing corruption.

Rather than following one uninterrupted campaign structure, Crimson Moon is divided into incursions lasting approximately 15 to 45 minutes. Each mission can introduce different enemies, modifiers, objectives, and difficulty levels, encouraging players to repeat previously visited areas while experimenting with weapons, armor, equipment, powers, and character builds. Increasing the challenge will provide stronger rewards, while evolving enemy configurations are intended to prevent each run from feeling identical.

Between incursions, players return to the Sanctus Clypeus cathedral, which functions as the central hub for the Order of the Crimson Moon. The church allows players to improve abilities, craft equipment, interact with characters, translate scrolls, unlock challenges, and select the next mission through the War Table. An evolving mission board will add themed objectives and increasingly difficult trials as progression continues.

The broader progression structure requires players to complete 3 districts consecutively before challenging a world boss. Crimson Moon contains 3 world bosses, and all of them must be defeated before the final enemy becomes available. This gives each sequence a clear escalation path while introducing additional risk for players attempting to push deeper into Gildenarch without returning to safety.

Every mission can be completed alone or through two player online co op. Enemy encounters dynamically scale according to the number of participants, preventing an additional player from simply removing the intended difficulty. Partners can revive each other during combat and combine their abilities to create more effective offensive or defensive strategies against larger enemy groups and bosses.

ProbablyMonsters is also using heavy metal as a major part of the game’s identity. HEALTH, Jared Dines, Misha Mansoor, and Ricky Armellino have created original music for the 3 world boss encounters and the final battle. The collaboration connects Crimson Moon’s gothic high renaissance visual direction with a more aggressive modern soundtrack designed specifically around its major confrontations.

"We want as many people as possible to enjoy it, and we priced it with that in mind."

Crimson Moon is entering a crowded action RPG market, but its $19.99 price and compact replay structure give it a clearer identity than another full length Souls inspired campaign. The combination of 15 to 45 minute incursions, scalable challenges, equipment progression, and optional cooperation could make it easier to revisit without requiring the commitment expected from a traditional 50 hour role playing game.

Its greatest challenge will be variety. A structure built around repeated runs depends heavily on enemy diversity, boss quality, meaningful modifiers, and rewards that genuinely change how combat feels. Without those elements, short missions can quickly become predictable regardless of how impressive the gothic presentation appears.

The two player mode could become its strongest competitive advantage, particularly as cooperative progression continues to influence games such as Lords of the Fallen II. ProbablyMonsters is offering a smaller and considerably less expensive proposition, but the core opportunity is similar: give players demanding combat that becomes more engaging when shared with another person.

Does Crimson Moon’s $19.99 price and replayable mission structure make it more appealing than a traditional full length Souls inspired RPG?
