Capcom Confirms Monster Hunter Wilds Is Getting a Large Scale Iceborne and Sunbreak Sized Expansion, Full Reveal Planned for Summer 2026

Capcom has confirmed that Monster Hunter Wilds will receive a large scale expansion later in 2026, with an official reveal planned for Summer 2026. The news arrived as part of the company’s update outlining what is coming to the game in February 2026, and it immediately sets expectations at the highest tier possible by directly comparing the upcoming content drop to Monster Hunter World: Iceborne and Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak.

Producer Ryozo Tsujimoto closed the update by looking beyond the next patch and speaking to Wilds long term pipeline. He confirmed the team is actively developing an expansion on the same scale as Iceborne and Sunbreak, and that more information will be shared this summer. Capcom did not provide a title, a launch window beyond later this year, or specifics on monsters, regions, or endgame systems, but the comparison to those two expansions carries a clear message for veteran hunters. This is not a small content pack. It is being framed as a foundational upgrade that can meaningfully shift progression, challenge curve, and the overall meta, similar to how prior Monster Hunter expansions redefined their base games.

Because the reveal is scheduled for Summer 2026, the community is already looking at major showcase beats where Capcom typically delivers large announcements. The two obvious candidates are Summer Game Fest and Gamescom, though Capcom has not confirmed the specific event yet.

What lands much sooner is the next update. Monster Hunter Wilds Update 1.041 is scheduled to release on 2026 02 18, and it is designed to push the endgame upward while also fueling a broader anniversary push.

Update 1.041 highlights include the following.

A 10 star Arch tempered Arkveld quest, plus 10 star quests for all previous Arch tempered monsters, which should directly address one of the loudest recurring critiques from long time players, a lack of challenge for veteran hunters.

A collaboration with Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection, positioned to celebrate that game’s upcoming arrival on 2026 03 13.

A slate of event quests to celebrate the 1 year anniversary of Wilds.

A new weapon designed by the winning artist from Capcom’s recent design contest. Only the winning design will be added to the game, but all 16 finalists will receive credits in the patch notes for the update.

The timing and messaging around the expansion also reveals the commercial strategy. Capcom needs Monster Hunter Wilds to accelerate from solid baseline performance into a longer tail winner, and expansions have historically been the franchise’s most reliable lever for that outcome. Wilds had a massive launch and was still among the best selling games of 2025, but the company’s latest financial framing suggests the game is currently trailing Monster Hunter Rise in sell through pace. That context explains why the Wilds team has been pushing to re engage players who stepped away shortly after launch, particularly those who cited technical issues and design issues, or who felt the difficulty curve did not offer enough pressure for experienced hunters.

A large scale expansion that follows the Iceborne and Sunbreak blueprint is exactly the kind of pivot that can change perception, rebuild momentum, and convert lapsed players into returning buyers. If Capcom nails the content density, endgame depth, and performance stability, Summer 2026 could become the real turning point where Wilds shifts into its next era.

If you stopped playing Monster Hunter Wilds after launch, what would it take to bring you back, a harder endgame, better performance, more monsters, or a full expansion that changes progression like Iceborne and Sunbreak did?
