Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Open Beta Announced for October

The long-awaited showdown between Call of Duty and Battlefield is heating up this fall. Following Battlefield 6’s recent open beta, the official Xbox Store page has now confirmed that Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will hold its own open beta this October.

According to the listing, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers will gain early access on October 2, 2025, while all other players can join in starting October 5, 2025. The store description doesn’t specify how long the beta will last, or if multiple weekends are planned, but it does confirm a minimum duration of two days.

More details about the beta and the game itself are expected during Gamescom Opening Night Live 2025, which begins later today. Black Ops 7 is set to open the showcase with its full reveal, and it’s highly likely Activision will use the event to outline beta content, confirm schedules, and officially lock in the game’s release date, which leaked last week.

The timing of the Black Ops 7 open beta is notable. If the leaked release date is accurate, it means Battlefield 6 will have had nearly a full month on the market before Call of Duty even launches, giving EA a rare opportunity to establish an audience before its biggest competitor arrives.

Industry debate is already in full swing. Some analysts believe Battlefield 6 is positioned to make a major comeback, while others argue that Call of Duty’s annual dominance and massive built-in community make it nearly impossible to dethrone on sales charts. Regardless, fans of the genre are in for a treat, as both franchises appear to be in top form for the first time in years.

Are you planning to jump into the Black Ops 7 open beta, or will you stick with Battlefield 6 this October?
