Bungie’s Destiny: Rising Launches on iOS and Android This August with Alternate-Timeline Story and Classic PvE/PvP Modes

Bungie and publishing partner NetEase have officially announced that Destiny: Rising, a mobile-exclusive, alternate-timeline spin on the legendary Destiny franchise, will launch on August 28, 2025, for both iOS and Android devices. This mobile adaptation offers fans of the series a new way to engage with the Destiny universe—one tailored specifically for mobile gameplay while remaining faithful to its core identity.

Alternate Timeline, Familiar Faces

Destiny: Rising does not continue the current Destiny 2 storyline, but instead takes place in an alternate timeline. This narrative approach provides Bungie with the creative freedom to reshape lore and reimagine characters, offering fans a fresh yet recognizable take on the universe they’ve followed for nearly a decade.

Instead of creating custom Guardians as in the mainline titles, players will choose from pre-designed iconic characters like Ikora Rey and Iron Lord Jolder. However, Bungie has also introduced Wolf, a fully customizable Lightbearer hero, providing a new experience tailored to mobile players while still incorporating personalization.

Core Gameplay: Mobile-Optimized but Destiny at Heart

Even with platform limitations, Destiny: Rising stays true to the series’ signature gameplay pillars:

  • Strike Missions

  • Six-player PvE cooperative raids

  • Competitive PvP game modes

The gameplay, showcased in the reveal trailer, features fast-paced action and vibrant visuals optimized for mobile while preserving the tone, combat rhythm, and visual identity of the Destiny franchise. According to Bungie, Destiny: Rising was built from the ground up to deliver Destiny's scale and feel on mobile, rather than as a simplified adaptation.

Strategic Expansion via NetEase Partnership

Originally revealed in October 2024, Destiny: Rising is the product of Bungie’s ongoing collaboration with NetEase, a key partner in the studio's push into the global mobile gaming space. While Destiny 2 continues to evolve as Bungie’s mainline live service console and PC experience, Rising represents the company’s intent to expand the franchise's reach while exploring non-canonical, experimental narratives and mechanics.

With pre-registration now live, players can unlock exclusive launch-day in-game rewards. These bonuses will be granted upon release and are designed to give early adopters a head start in progression and customization.

Are you ready to experience Destiny on the go, or do you prefer to keep your Lightbearer adventures on console and PC? Let us know your thoughts on this mobile expansion below.
