Borderlands 4 Now Available for Pre-Order, Launches at $69.99—No $80 Price Tag After All

In a welcome update for fans of the loot-shooter genre, Borderlands 4 is now officially available for pre-order, and contrary to earlier speculation, it will not carry an $80 price tag at launch. Publisher 2K and developer Gearbox Software released a new press announcement today confirming that the Standard Edition of Borderlands 4 will retail for $69.99 USD on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, with a global launch date set for September 12, 2025.

While Gearbox president Randy Pitchford had previously hinted that Borderlands 4 could align with the industry’s growing trend toward $80 price points, today’s confirmation should come as a relief to fans eager to dive back into the chaotic, loot-filled universe without an additional price barrier.

Three Editions Detailed: Standard, Deluxe, and Super Deluxe

2K also outlined the Deluxe Edition and Super Deluxe Edition, which offer expanded content for players looking for more than the base game:

  • Includes the Bounty Pack Bundle featuring:
    • Four post-launch DLC packs with unique areas, missions, and bosses
    • Four Vault Cards with exclusive challenges and rewards
    • New gear, weapons, and vehicles
    • Vault Hunter cosmetics
    • Firehawk’s Fury Weapon Skin

  • Includes everything from the Deluxe Edition, plus the Vault Hunter Pack, which adds:
    • Two all-new story packs with original Vault Hunters, side missions, and story arcs
    • Two new map regions
    • More gear, cosmetics, and ECHO-4 personalization options

Notably, Borderlands 4 will also be available via NVIDIA GeForce NOW on launch day, giving players the flexibility to play through cloud streaming from the very beginning.

Digital Prices Continue to Rise – Should You Wait?

While $69.99 may seem like a relief in a time when digital game prices are quietly creeping toward $80 or more for standard editions, it's worth noting that waiting can save you money. Most digital titles—especially on platforms like Steam, PlayStation Store, and Xbox Live—tend to receive significant discounts within just a few months of launch. With increasing post-launch bundles and seasonal sales, patient gamers can often grab these titles for far less.

So unless you're looking to jump in on day one, you might want to keep your wallet holstered and wait for the inevitable sale—especially since digital games don't sell out. Will you be going with the Standard Edition or jumping straight into the Deluxe content? Or are you planning to wait for a discount? Let us know your pick in the comments below!
