Borderlands 4 Goes Gold, On Track for September 12 Release on PC and Consoles

Gearbox Software and publisher 2K have officially announced that Borderlands 4 has gone gold, marking a major milestone in the game's development and securing its September 12, 2025 release date for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S.

The announcement was made via the official Borderlands X account, signaling that development on the launch version is now complete and ready for mass production and distribution.

Going gold traditionally means the game’s master build is finalized and ready to ship, which is a strong indication that the release date will hold. While rare exceptions exist, most notably the last-minute delay of Cyberpunk 2077 in 2020. even that scenario remains the exception rather than the rule.

For Borderlands fans, this milestone removes any lingering doubts about delays and confirms that the long-awaited sequel will arrive in just under two months. With Borderlands 4 promising to expand on the franchise’s trademark blend of looter-shooter action, irreverent humor, and stylized cel-shaded visuals, expectations are high.

While Gearbox and 2K have yet to share extensive new gameplay footage or campaign details beyond what was initially revealed, a major pre-launch marketing push is expected to follow soon, especially now that the title has officially reached gold status.

With the studio finalizing its preparations and manufacturing set to begin, Borderlands 4 is locked and loaded for its worldwide launch. The countdown begins now.
