Bomb Rush Cyberfunk Studio Debuts Its Next Game, Hyperfunk
Team Reptile, the indie studio behind the Jet Set Radio-inspired Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, has officially announced its next project: Hyperfunk. Like its predecessor, the new title promises to deliver a fast-paced, music-driven, trick-heavy experience, but with fresh ideas layered on top.
The reveal came directly from Team Reptile’s official website, where the studio introduced the game with a teaser trailer and short description. According to the announcement:
“Team Reptile's new game is called Hyperfunk. An extreme trick and graffiti game in which the higher your combo score, the faster you can boost. Follow the story of a crew called MACH10 and compete with the other crews in dynamic style wars or hang out online with friends.”
From the teaser, it’s clear that Hyperfunk will double down on fluid movement, graffiti tagging, and combo-focused trick systems, much like Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, but with an extra emphasis on speed and multiplayer competition.
Details revealed so far include:
Core Gameplay: An “extreme trick and graffiti game” where combo chains increase your boost speed, adding new depth to movement mechanics.
Story: Players will follow the crew MACH10, competing against rival crews in “dynamic style wars.”
Multiplayer: Beyond single-player story content, the game will also feature an online hangout mode with friends.
Platforms: Confirmed for PC and consoles, though specific systems haven’t yet been detailed.
Release: No release date or release window has been announced.
Carrying the Spirit of Bomb Rush Cyberfunk
With Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, Team Reptile delivered a vibrant, stylistic spiritual successor to Sega’s Jet Set Radio, focusing on high-energy movement and urban culture aesthetics. Hyperfunk looks to refine that formula further, adding competitive elements and more complex trick systems, while keeping its signature style.
Though the studio is keeping its cards close to the chest for now, Hyperfunk already feels like a natural evolution of the creative groundwork laid in Bomb Rush Cyberfunk. Fans of stylish, rhythm-infused action games should definitely keep this one on their radar.
What do you think of Hyperfunk’s reveal - are you hoping it leans more into multiplayer competition or expands further on single-player story and style?
