Blizzard Previews Diablo IV Season 8: Belial’s Return—New Boss Powers, Tiered Lair Encounters, Reliquaries, and Class-Specific Loot

Ahead of Thursday’s full developer stream, Blizzard has released a detailed combat blog and a fresh gameplay trailer for Diablo IV Season 8: Belial’s Return, launching 29 April 2025. Players can now study the season’s signature mechanic—Boss Powers—which draws on a roster of twenty-four iconic adversaries, each offering a principal attack coupled with a modifier effect. Blizzard confirms that some powers unlock at any World Tier, while others become available only from Torment I upward, reinforcing the end-game grind.

Season 8 also introduces a three-tier structure for lair bosses—Initiate, Greater, and Exalted—accessible exclusively on Torment I or higher and contingent on owning the Vessel of Hatred expansion. The new hierarchy replaces the previous “end-game boss” label and promises escalating rewards for coordinated parties willing to test Belial’s deceitful domain.

On the loot front, Blizzard outlines class-focused drops: freshly designed Legendary and Unique items for Barbarian, Necromancer, Sorcerer, Druid, Rogue, and the recently unveiled Spiritborn. Each item synergizes with the boss-power system, encouraging experimental builds that combine traditional skills with repurposed enemy abilities.

Another foundational change is the debut of Reliquaries—a reimagined progression track that refreshes the game’s Battle Pass. While many Reliquaries must be purchased with Platinum, milestone events will award themed Reliquaries on completion, ensuring both free-to-play and premium paths to cosmetic and functional rewards.

Blizzard promises additional reveals during the 24 April livestream, including patch-note specifics and anniversary content. Until then, players can explore combat breakdowns in Blizzard’s official blog.
