Battlefield 6 Battle Royale Mode Officially Revealed, Testing Begins This Week on BF Labs

The long-rumored Battle Royale mode for Battlefield 6 is finally official. Earlier today, EA and DICE shared the first details, confirming that public testing will begin this week through the Battlefield Labs platform. The developers describe the mode as a true blend of Battle Royale staples with Battlefield’s trademark DNA, including destructible environments, class-based gameplay, and combined arms combat.

The mode features a brand-new map built specifically for Battle Royale, with a wide variety of tactical points of interest, each offering distinct layouts and combat opportunities. True to the series’ identity, destruction plays a pivotal role, ranging from breaching walls for new pathways to toppling entire buildings, a level of environmental impact rarely seen in other Battle Royale titles.

Matches will host 100 players divided into 25 squads of four, all competing to be the last squad standing. Vehicles are scattered around the map, and squads can unlock armored vehicles later in the match, setting up the kind of chaotic combined-arms engagements Battlefield is known for.

One of the biggest twists is Battlefield’s version of the shrinking circle: instead of a damaging zone, players must outrun a deadly fire ring that instantly kills anything it touches. This removes the common exploit of lingering in the danger zone to flank enemies.

Classes are another defining element. At the start of each match, squads lock in their class choices, which cannot be changed mid-game. Each class begins with two default gadgets and can level up during the match by defeating opponents or completing objectives. Leveling unlocks new traits, such as faster armor plate application for the Assault class.

To keep gameplay dynamic, the mode introduces squad-based missions that provide valuable rewards. Objectives range from unlocking caches and planting explosives to eliminating key targets. Once completed, rewards like weapon caches, vehicle keys, or redeploy units are airdropped into the map, though rival squads can intercept them.

Loot follows a tiered system with five rarity levels, offering weapons, attachments, gadgets, strike packages, armor, and upgrade kits. Some loot is class-specific, adding more tactical variety. Communication options include text, VoIP, and ping systems, making squad coordination crucial.

The Battle Royale mode will be tested in BF Labs this week, ahead of Battlefield 6’s full release on October 10, 2025. While the focus remains on delivering the core Battlefield experience at launch, EA hinted that the mode could eventually evolve into a standalone, free-to-play release, similar to Call of Duty: Warzone.

With Battlefield aiming for 100 million players, the success of its Battle Royale mode could play a major role in hitting that milestone.

Do you think Battlefield’s destructible environments and class-based systems will set its Battle Royale apart from Warzone and Fortnite?
