AYANEO Confirms NEXT II Will Feature a 9 Inch OLED Display With 2400 x 1504 Resolution
AYANEO has officially revealed the long awaited display specifications for its upcoming NEXT II handheld gaming console, confirming that it will feature a nine inch OLED screen with an unusual ultra high resolution of 2400 by 1504 pixels and a refresh rate of 165 hertz. The announcement was made through AYANEO’s social media channels, ending weeks of speculation following the device’s initial teaser and partial launch.
The company is one of the few handheld manufacturers preparing a device powered by AMD’s Strix Halo architecture. Earlier this year, AYANEO promoted the NEXT II as offering an “exclusive large screen”, but did not confirm the dimensions or display technology at release. The confirmation positions the NEXT II as one of the largest modern PC handhelds, surpassing common eight inch competitors.

What stands out most is the resolution. The 2400 by 1504 native landscape panel does not match any commonly used handheld standard such as 1280 by 800 or 1920 by 1200. Its aspect ratio sits close to sixteen by ten, but remains technically unique. This unusual resolution could provide both improved clarity and a taller visual layout compared to competitors such as the GPD WIN 5 and the ONEXFLY APEX, both of which ship with 1920 by 1200 displays.
The NEXT II’s OLED technology should offer deeper blacks, stronger contrast, and more vivid color reproduction. Combined with a maximum refresh rate of 165 hertz, the handheld will deliver extremely smooth motion for eSports titles, although maintaining high frame rates at this resolution will be challenging in demanding triple A games.
Internally, AYANEO has confirmed that the NEXT II is powered by the Ryzen AI Max Plus 395, a sixteen core and thirty two thread Zen 5 processor with Radeon 8060S integrated graphics based on AMD’s RDNA 3.5 architecture. The 8060S features forty compute units, making it one of the most powerful iGPUs ever announced for a handheld platform.
Despite the growing excitement around the device, AYANEO has still not released the complete hardware specification list, including battery capacity, storage options, cooling solution, or pricing. The extended delay has raised questions within the handheld community, but AYANEO maintains that more details will follow soon.
With a nine inch OLED screen, a unique ultra high resolution, and top tier mobile processing hardware, the NEXT II is positioned as one of the most ambitious handheld gaming consoles announced for 2025.
Do you think a 2400 by 1504 resolution at 165 hertz is practical for a handheld, or would you prefer a more conventional display for better performance?
