Assassin’s Creed Unity PS5 and Xbox Series X Patch Delivers 4K and 60 FPS
Ubisoft has now officially confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Unity has received a current generation console update for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S, and the patch does more than just improve frame rate. While early discussion around the update focused on community reports and posts on ResetEra, Ubisoft’s own patch notes now confirm that the game runs at 4K and 60 FPS on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro, and Xbox Series X, while Xbox Series S targets 1080p at 60 FPS.
That makes this update a meaningful technical refresh for one of the franchise’s most visually ambitious older entries. Assassin’s Creed Unity originally launched in 2014, and despite its troubled debut, it remained one of the series’ strongest showcases for dense urban design, animation, and large scale crowd rendering. With this new patch, Ubisoft is clearly positioning the game for a new round of attention from players who want to revisit the older Assassin’s Creed formula with smoother performance and a cleaner image on modern hardware.
The current generation patch was first teased as part of Ubisoft’s broader Assassin’s Creed update, where the publisher outlined the future of the franchise and confirmed that support for older games still matters to the company. In that post, Ubisoft said a free 60 FPS patch for Assassin’s Creed Unity would arrive on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 on March 5, 2026. The dedicated follow up patch article then confirmed the final technical targets, including the 4K resolution support that had initially been circulating through community reporting.
That detail is important because it changes the conversation around the update. Earlier player reports, including screenshots shared in the ResetEra discussion, suggested the image quality had improved well beyond the original console presentation, but there was still uncertainty over whether the bump was reconstructed, dynamic, or fully documented. Ubisoft’s own notes now settle the bigger point: 4K support is officially part of the patch on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro, and Xbox Series X.
From a broader franchise perspective, the timing is also notable. Ubisoft’s latest roadmap update says Assassin’s Creed Shadows is entering its final phase of support, while future projects such as Codename Hexe and Codename Invictus continue in development. The company also teased that some long running whispers around the series may have more substance behind them, although it stopped short of fully detailing those projects. Against that backdrop, giving Unity a fresh technical update feels like both fan service and a strategic way to keep older entries relevant while the next phase of Assassin’s Creed takes shape.
For players, this is one of the better kinds of legacy support. Assassin’s Creed Unity remains a favorite for many fans who prefer denser city traversal, a more grounded combat flow, and the co op flavor that set it apart from later RPG leaning entries. With 60 FPS now paired with official 4K output on the higher end current generation consoles, the game has a real chance to be rediscovered by a wider audience in 2026.
Do you think Assassin’s Creed Unity deserves a full modern remaster next, or is this 4K and 60 FPS patch enough for now?
