AMD Radeon Users Report Smart Access Memory Status Bug on Windows 10
AMD Radeon users are reporting a confusing Smart Access Memory issue on Windows 10 following recent problems with the company’s Adrenalin graphics drivers. In affected systems, AMD Software may show Smart Access Memory as disabled even when Resizable BAR and Above 4G Decoding remain enabled inside the motherboard BIOS.
The reports appeared after some users encountered a Windows 10 installation failure involving Adrenalin Edition 26.6.2. The problem could prevent AMD Software from opening and display a warning beside the Radeon graphics card inside Device Manager. AMD officially investigated that installation issue and released the Adrenalin Edition 26.6.3 Hotfix Preview, which specifically addresses intermittent installation failures on Windows 10 systems using Radeon RX 7000 series and newer graphics cards.
Some affected players removed the damaged driver, returned to Adrenalin 26.6.1, and then discovered that Smart Access Memory appeared disabled inside AMD Software. Initial reports connected the status change with lower performance, instability, repeated hardware change notifications, and game crashes. However, the most detailed community report was later updated after additional testing showed that the feature remained active despite the incorrect status inside Adrenalin.
The user confirmed Resizable BAR operation through the BIOS, Device Manager, HWiNFO, and GPU Z. Benchmark comparisons performed with Resizable BAR enabled and disabled also produced measurable differences, indicating that Smart Access Memory was functioning correctly. This suggests that at least some cases involve a cosmetic reporting problem inside Adrenalin rather than the driver actually disabling the feature.
That distinction is important because GameGPU initially described the problem as a forced Smart Access Memory shutdown. The Reddit report used as its source later concluded that Adrenalin was displaying the wrong status. AMD has not added Smart Access Memory or Resizable BAR to the official known issue list for the 26.6.3 hotfix.
Community members have reported that restarting Windows several times can restore the correct status inside Adrenalin. Others recommend confirming that the system uses UEFI mode, Compatibility Support Module is disabled, and both Above 4G Decoding and Resizable BAR are enabled. Checking the feature through Device Manager, HWiNFO, or GPU Z may provide a more reliable answer than relying only on the Adrenalin interface.
This appears to be 2 related but separate problems. AMD confirmed a Windows 10 installation failure involving Adrenalin 26.6.2, while the Smart Access Memory status problem currently relies on community evidence and may be limited to incorrect reporting inside AMD Software.
Even a cosmetic error deserves attention because Adrenalin is the primary tool many Radeon owners use to confirm whether important features are active. AMD should clarify the issue and correct the interface before users begin changing BIOS settings or repeatedly reinstalling drivers unnecessarily.
Has AMD Adrenalin shown Smart Access Memory as disabled on your Windows 10 system, and did another monitoring tool confirm that Resizable BAR was still active?
