War Sails, the Naval Expansion for Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord, Launches on November 26
TaleWorlds Entertainment has officially announced that War Sails, the long-awaited naval expansion for Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord, will set sail on November 26. The expansion will launch simultaneously across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S at 00:00 Pacific Time, 03:00 Eastern Time, and 09:00 Central European Time, priced at $24.99.
Originally slated for release in June, War Sails was delayed to allow the independent studio more time to refine gameplay and balance new systems. The new gameplay showcase released alongside the announcement highlights the expansion’s key features, including fully realized naval warfare, custom fleet battles, and a new Northern Kingdom to explore.
At the heart of War Sails is the introduction of large-scale naval battles, allowing players to command entire fleets across the rivers, coasts, and open seas of Calradia. The new Custom Naval Battles mode lets players instantly create and command fleet engagements on River, Coastal, and Open Sea maps. This feature is designed for players who want to test tactics, experiment with different ship setups, or experience full-scale battles without progressing through the campaign.
Naval combat has been built around realistic wind and water physics, with players needing to master maneuvering, boarding, and ramming techniques. Battles will reward strategic play — crippling enemy ships by damaging their sails, shattering oars, or sinking their hulls will all be viable tactics.
The expansion also introduces the Northern Kingdom, home to the fierce and sea-hardened Nords. This new region adds a dramatic northern coastline filled with icy fjords, rocky peaks, and trading ports, expanding Calradia into a world of both land and sea warfare.
Players can recruit Nordic warriors, trade rare northern goods, or engage in raids across the frigid seas. The map expansion introduces new islands, rivers, and open waters, where players can sail past barriers, resupply their fleets, and fight on both sea and land.
At launch, players will have access to 18 unique ships, each with distinctive handling characteristics influenced by wind and wave conditions. Ships can be upgraded with siege engines, reinforced hulls, rams, and custom sails. They can be purchased, looted, or captured, and ports can be upgraded to strengthen a faction’s naval presence.
The expansion introduces mechanics for maintaining supplies, blockading enemy ports, and supporting land armies via naval strikes. Storms and harsh weather will also play a role in battle outcomes, forcing players to adapt to unpredictable conditions.
War Sails enriches the world of Bannerlord with new companions, unique weapons, Nordic-themed banners, armor sets, hairstyles, and tattoos. These additions allow players to further customize their characters and armies in line with the expansion’s maritime theme.
Since its full release in October 2022, Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord has continued to maintain a dedicated global fanbase and an active modding community. The game’s open-ended design has inspired major community projects such as Bannerlord Online, which transforms the experience into an MMO-like world, and total conversion mods like Realm of Thrones on Nexus Mods. Other projects have even experimented with integrating AI-driven NPC interactions, pushing the game’s sandbox design further than ever.
With War Sails, TaleWorlds brings one of the most requested features to life, expanding Calradia’s warfare beyond land and ushering in a new age of strategy and exploration.
Will you take command of your fleet and rule the seas of Calradia when War Sails launches this November?
