Netflix’s Assassin’s Creed TV Series Casts Toby Wallace as Co Lead in Upcoming Adaptation

Netflix’s long awaited live action adaptation of Assassin’s Creed has taken a significant step forward with new casting news. According to a report from Deadline, actor Toby Wallace has officially signed on as a co lead in the series. Wallace, age 30, is known for his roles in Bikeriders, Eden and the upcoming third season of Euphoria.

Netflix first announced the Assassin’s Creed TV series in 2020, but development has moved slowly, with little public progress over the past five years. Earlier this year, the series finally received its long awaited green light from Netflix in July, and casting news now confirms that production is beginning to ramp up in earnest.

Deadline’s report does not reveal who Wallace will portray, and plot specifics remain tightly guarded. Filming is scheduled to begin in Italy in 2026, which Deadline suggests will also serve as the primary setting for the story. However, the time period has not been confirmed.

Fans of the franchise will naturally speculate about a return to Renaissance Italy, one of the most beloved eras in the Assassin’s Creed series. Such a setting could raise the possibility of a live action appearance by Ezio Auditore, one of gaming’s most iconic protagonists. Deadline does state that the series will feature characters different from those in the games, though this may refer primarily to original leads while still allowing familiar figures to appear in supporting roles or cameo moments.

Another open question is whether Wallace’s character will appear in the present day storyline surrounding the Animus or whether he will portray the assassin viewed through the historical memories that define the franchise. The dual structure of the games means either direction is possible.

This casting news comes as Netflix continues to expand its portfolio of video game inspired television. The company is approaching the end of its long running Witcher adaptation, is reportedly developing a reality show concept based on Overcooked and recently released Splinter Cell Deathwatch, an animated project that underscores Ubisoft’s ongoing interest in multimedia expansions of its franchises even as fans continue to request a new Splinter Cell game.

With filming set to begin in 2026 and casting now underway, the Assassin’s Creed series is poised to enter full production after years of anticipation.
