Xbox Series X/S Consoles Will Go Up in Price Again in the US on October 3

Microsoft has confirmed that the Xbox Series X and Series S consoles will see another price increase in the United States starting October 3, 2025, marking the second price adjustment this year. The announcement was made via the company’s official support page, where Microsoft cited only “changes in the macroeconomic environment” as the reason for the hike.

Accessories such as controllers and headsets will remain at their current prices, and international pricing outside the US will not be affected at this time.

A Recap of Price Hikes in 2025

Back in May, Microsoft raised the price of the Series X and Series S alongside accessories. That first adjustment was steep, with the Xbox Series S (512GB and 1TB) models increasing by $80, the Xbox Series X by $100, and the 2TB Galaxy Special Edition by $130.

This latest hike is less dramatic but still notable, especially given that it comes only five months later and applies only to the US. While Microsoft has not used the word “tariffs,” the increases being limited to the US strongly suggest that ongoing trade policies and import tariffs may be influencing the decision.

New Xbox Console Prices in the US (Effective October 3, 2025)

  • Xbox Series X – $649.99 (+$50)

  • Xbox Series X 2TB Galaxy Special Edition – $799.99 (+$70)

  • Xbox Series S 512GB – $399.99 (+$20)

  • Xbox Series S 1TB – $449.99 (+$20)

Industry Context

Microsoft is not the only company adjusting hardware prices. Sony raised the price of the PlayStation 5 in the US by $50 just last month, while Nintendo has so far only increased the price of Switch 2 accessories, leaving open the possibility of a console price adjustment in the future.

However, the timing of two consecutive Xbox console price hikes within the same year is unusual. Although the Series X/S consoles are reported to be profitable, analysts note that these increases are unlikely to significantly improve Microsoft’s bottom line, since Xbox hardware sales remain relatively modest compared to its competitors.

For consumers, the increases may make the value proposition of Xbox consoles even harder to justify, particularly when paired with rising costs of games and subscriptions.

Do you think these price hikes are justified given the current economic climate, or will they further hurt Xbox’s already struggling console sales?
