Witchfire Webgrave Update Expands the Dark Fantasy Shooter with New Region, Gear, Systems, and Tutorial

The Astronauts, the Polish development team behind the atmospheric first-person dark fantasy shooter Witchfire, has officially released the Webgrave update, the game’s most substantial content expansion since entering early access. Available now, Webgrave introduces an entirely new explorable region called Velmorne, alongside revamped gear systems, ability mechanics, player progression, and a much-requested onboarding tutorial for new players.

Launched initially in early access via the Epic Games Store in 2023 and later arriving on Steam in September 2024, Witchfire has steadily grown its content and refinement through community-driven feedback. The Webgrave update continues that trend by focusing on both early-game improvements and late-game challenges for veteran players.

One of the standout features is the new in-depth tutorial experience set on a separate map, available before players are introduced to the game’s core base, Hermitory. This marks a major step forward in accessibility, especially for newcomers unfamiliar with the game’s unique mix of roguelite progression, immersive gunplay, and arcane magic systems.

The update also introduces Gnosis VI, a high-level difficulty mode that increases challenge parameters for players who have already mastered the game’s previous thresholds. In addition to new weapons and gear, the expansion reworks several of Witchfire’s core systems particularly its approach to player builds and combat mechanics offering a more refined sandbox for experimentation and survival.

In a statement accompanying the update, The Astronauts co-founder and creative director Adrian Chmielarz expressed gratitude to the player community:

“Thank you to our early adopters! To all of you who have participated in our Early Access so far: Thank you very much for your help in getting us to this point. Your feedback in our official Discord and beyond has been vital!”

As Witchfire approaches its second anniversary in early access this coming September, the scope and polish of Webgrave suggest that the game may be nearing readiness for a full 1.0 launch. With new content, difficulty layers, and a vastly improved introduction, The Astronauts are setting the stage for a potential breakout when the game fully releases possibly in 2026.
