Krafton Shuts Down PUBG Blindspot Just 2 Months After Early Access Launch

Krafton has officially shut down PUBG Blindspot, ending the life of its free to play 5v5 top down tactical shooter only 2 months after the game entered early access on February 5, 2026. The title has now been retired from Steam, with SteamDB listing it as no longer available on the store.

The closure was confirmed in an official notice posted on the game’s Steam news page. In that message, ARC Team’s Sequoia Yang said the team had explored multiple ways to improve the experience, but ultimately concluded that it could no longer deliver the level of quality it had intended through early access. The statement confirmed that PUBG Blindspot’s early access service would end on Monday, March 30.

That is a very short run for a title carrying PUBG branding, especially considering Krafton’s broader effort to expand the franchise beyond the original battle royale formula. PUBG Blindspot launched as a tactical spin off with online cooperative and competitive elements, but the live player data never suggested durable momentum. SteamDB shows the game peaked at 3251 concurrent players and had fallen to just 12 players in game at the time of the latest record update on March 30, 2026.

Krafton also amplified the shutdown message on social media, giving the remaining community a final heads up before services ended. The studio post is still referenced here through the official PUBG Blindspot X post. While the company framed the decision around player experience, the collapse in active engagement strongly suggests Blindspot was unable to establish the player base needed for a live tactical shooter to remain viable. That final point is analysis based on the official shutdown notice and the available player trend data.

The timing also stands out because Krafton had only recently posted record annual results for 2025. In its February earnings release, the company reported annual revenue of KRW 3.3266 trillion, described as an all time high, with the PUBG franchise continuing to drive growth for a fifth consecutive year. Krafton’s public outlook around new PUBG projects had included expansion efforts tied to the broader IP, which makes Blindspot’s quick shutdown an early reminder that not every spin off can convert franchise recognition into sustainable live service traction.

From a product strategy perspective, this leaves Krafton with less room for error on future PUBG expansions. The remaining high profile project in that broader push is PUBG: Black Budget, an extraction shooter that will likely now face even more scrutiny. If Blindspot could not survive beyond its first 2 months in early access, Krafton will need a much stronger hook, clearer long term support plan, and healthier onboarding funnel for the next spin off to break through in a crowded multiplayer market. That is analysis based on Krafton’s franchise expansion posture and Blindspot’s shutdown, not a direct company statement.

The shutdown also lands during a turbulent period for Krafton’s wider public image. In February, the company created a new Chief AI Officer role to advance its AI driven strategy, and in March it also faced a court setback in the legal dispute involving Unknown Worlds leadership. Neither development caused PUBG Blindspot’s failure, but together they add to the sense that Krafton is trying to manage several major strategic fronts at the same time while still proving it can successfully launch and sustain new products beyond its core hits.

For players, the clearest takeaway is simple. PUBG Blindspot is gone, its early access experiment is over, and Krafton’s effort to turn the PUBG brand into a broader multiplayer portfolio just lost one of its first major bets of 2026.

Do you think Krafton should keep expanding PUBG into new genres, or does this shutdown show the franchise works best when it stays closer to its battle royale roots?
