Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodhunt Servers Will Burn Up in the Sun in April 2026
As Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 finally prepares to launch after years of anticipation, another chapter in the World of Darkness is coming to a close. Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodhunt, the free-to-play battle royale set in Prague, will officially shut down its servers on April 28, 2026, marking nearly four years since its full release on April 27, 2022.
Developer Sharkmob announced the upcoming shutdown in a statement on the game’s official website, confirming that dwindling player numbers have made it “no longer sustainable” to keep the servers running.
“During these past 4 years, we have been thrilled to see your passion and dedication to Bloodhunt,” Sharkmob wrote. “Your feedback, creativity, and enthusiasm for our game has meant the world to us. However, despite you, our amazing community, the current player population has reached a level where keeping the servers running is no longer sustainable. This has led us to make the difficult decision to take Bloodhunt offline.”
The studio concluded its farewell message with a poetic nod to the game’s lore:
“The sun is now going to rise over Prague. We will be taking down the Bloodhunt servers on the 28th of April 2026, after which the game will no longer be available.”
The shutdown announcement does not come as a surprise. Back in 2023, Sharkmob revealed that active development on Bloodhunt had ceased, confirming there would be no new content updates, though servers would remain live for the existing community. Despite a strong launch, Bloodhunt struggled to retain its player base in the crowded multiplayer space.
Data from SteamDB shows that the last time Bloodhunt consistently exceeded 1,000 concurrent players was in 2023, with only two brief spikes above that threshold throughout 2024. Since October 2024, active player counts have dropped to just a few hundred at any given time. While PlayStation 5 numbers were not disclosed, the game’s overall population was far too low to sustain its always-online infrastructure.
As of today, in-game token purchases have been disabled, though existing tokens can still be spent until the servers go dark next year. Once the shutdown occurs, all player data and gameplay progress will be permanently deleted, along with the in-game currency system.
Sharkmob thanked its remaining player base for their support, encouraging fans to make the most of the time that remains:
“We encourage everyone to enjoy the time that remains in Prague and to keep playing, making the most of these final months together. Thank you for being with us on this journey. We hope your memories from the rooftops and back alleys of Prague will stay with you as they have with us.”
Although its life was short, Bloodhunt stood out for its stylish setting, vertical combat mechanics, and atmospheric depiction of modern Prague. The game’s shutdown highlights the ongoing challenges faced by smaller online titles competing in a genre dominated by giants like Fortnite, Apex Legends, and Call of Duty: Warzone.
With Bloodlines 2 set to reignite interest in the franchise, the hope remains that fans of the World of Darkness will have new opportunities to sink their teeth into fresh experiences in the years ahead.
