Battlefield 6 Maps Confirmed To Be Smaller Than Previous Entries in New Community Comparison

Fans of the Battlefield series have long suspected that Battlefield 6’s maps are smaller than those of its predecessors, and a detailed community analysis has now confirmed those suspicions. A new comparison compiled by Reddit user ClaraTheRed on the Battlefield subreddit provides the most comprehensive look yet at how the franchise’s maps stack up across every major title.

Clara’s project compares all 87 maps from Battlefield 3, Battlefield 4, Hardline, Battlefield 1, and Battlefield 6, analyzing both total area and playable space, as well as the shape and scale of each map. The findings clearly show that Battlefield 6 maps rank considerably lower than earlier games when it comes to overall size and open-area playability.

According to the comparison, Battlefield 6’s largest map, Operation Firestorm (a reimagining of the Battlefield 3 classic), ranks only 32nd in playable area across the series. The original Battlefield 3 version of Firestorm, by contrast, ranked 7th.

Among the new maps introduced in Battlefield 6, Mirak Valley holds the top spot, ranking 35th overall, while Saints Quarter lands at the bottom of the list as the second smallest map in franchise history.

This confirms what many players have been feeling since launch: Battlefield 6’s battlefields feel more compact and less expansive, a stark contrast to the franchise’s reputation for large-scale, open-ended warfare.

While some of the largest Battlefield maps historically arrived as DLC content in later updates, there’s no denying that Battlefield 6’s base maps leave much to be desired in terms of size and variety. The community’s ongoing feedback reflects this frustration, especially among fans who prefer Battlefield’s hallmark large-scale combined-arms combat.

Developers have recently shown a willingness to respond to feedback, as seen in their decision to remove a controversial neon-blue skin from the game after players criticized it for breaking immersion and not fitting the setting (MP1st report). This leaves fans hopeful that EA and DICE may take similar action to address map design concerns in future updates or expansions.

If Battlefield 6 aims to recapture the scope and intensity that made earlier entries so iconic, expanding map size and offering more open, tactical environments could be key steps forward.

Do you think smaller maps make Battlefield 6 more intense and focused, or do they take away what made the series unique?
