The Blood of Dawnwalker Director Questions 120 FPS Push as PC Optimization Continues
The Blood of Dawnwalker director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz has questioned the expectation that a single player RPG should consistently target 120 FPS, while confirming that Rebel Wolves is continuing to improve the PC version after launch. Speaking about player reports across a wide range of hardware, Tomaszkiewicz said the studio is collecting system information and working through reported issues, but suggested the difference between 70, 90, and 120 FPS is less critical for Dawnwalker than it would be for a competitive shooter.
"It's not a shooter, it's not a game where it's so important."

The discussion is especially relevant because The Blood of Dawnwalker launched with demanding native PC targets. Rebel Wolves previously specified an RTX 5090 for native 4K at 60 FPS using the Ultra preset, excluding DLSS, FSR, and frame generation. The full PC requirements, which ranged from native 1080p at 30 FPS through native 4K at 60 FPS depending on hardware and settings. Since launch, the studio has acknowledged that the number of possible PC configurations makes comprehensive testing difficult and says performance work is continuing across different systems.
Rebel Wolves has separately confirmed several gameplay changes for the next major update. A new easier Story difficulty will be added for players who want less demanding combat, while the current Story setting will receive a new name to distinguish it from the lower difficulty. Combat targeting is also being changed so stunning an enemy will no longer automatically force the player onto another target. Players will instead remain focused on the stunned opponent, with the stun ending after 3 successful hits. The studio is also revising encounter escape behavior to reduce cases where players become stuck on environmental geometry while trying to disengage from combat.
Those are the gameplay changes currently confirmed for the update. PC optimization is continuing in parallel, but Rebel Wolves has not attached a specific universal frame rate target to that work. New Game Plus is also being explored, but it has not been announced for the upcoming patch and does not yet have a release window. Additional enemy variety has likewise been discussed by the team without being confirmed as part of the current update.
The 120 FPS comment is easy to frame as a developer dismissing PC performance concerns, but the full answer is more measured. Tomaszkiewicz does not consider 120 FPS essential to the design of The Blood of Dawnwalker, yet Rebel Wolves is still gathering hardware reports and continuing optimization work.
The next update is much more concrete on gameplay. Players can expect a new easier difficulty, revised stun targeting, and changes to escaping encounters. Features such as New Game Plus remain future possibilities rather than promised additions.
For a single player RPG like The Blood of Dawnwalker, do you consider a consistent 60 FPS enough, or do you now expect 90 to 120 FPS from a high end gaming PC?
