Tencent Surges to a Record Ten Billion Dollars in Annual Revenue as Global Games Strategy Matures
Tencent’s long running investment strategy across the global games industry has reached a new peak. According to a detailed feature from Bloomberg, chief executive officer Michelle Liu confirmed that Tencent generated a record ten billion dollars in revenue over the past year, marking a pivotal milestone for the company’s evolving influence in worldwide game development.
Tencent has steadily built its position through a mix of minority stakes, major equity positions, and full acquisitions. This approach has enabled the company to nurture a portfolio that spans independent studios, live service specialists, and major IP holders. Liu notes that Tencent’s strategy is not simply financial but rooted in hands on operational support that elevates the capabilities of its partner studios. As she states, “If they could already achieve everything on their own, what would they need me for? Tencent has a lot of experience with data analysis, benchmarks, and criteria.”
This expertise has already delivered measurable benefits for teams such as Funcom, the developer of Dune Awakening, and Techland, creators of Dying Light The Beast. Both studios highlighted Tencent’s role during interviews at Gamescom 2025. Techland founder Pawel Marchewka emphasized, “We can always count on an extra point of view that helps us to improve the game.” Funcom chief executive Rui Casais added that Tencent provided valuable focus, encouraging them to concentrate on their flagship IP rather than being spread across multiple projects.
The results speak for themselves. Dune Awakening became Funcom’s biggest launch in studio history, while Techland sold over one million copies of Dying Light The Beast at launch on Steam alone not including players who accessed it through a bundle with Dying Light 2 Stay Human. While both teams are clear that credit belongs to the developers themselves, Tencent’s operational guidance helped reinforce execution at scale.
Bloomberg’s report also includes a comparative performance chart demonstrating Tencent’s vast scale relative to other major industry players such as Roblox, even as Roblox continues to break concurrent user records. Tencent’s strategic discipline, cross studio knowledge sharing, and centralized data driven support framework have positioned it as one of the most influential forces shaping global game development.
Looking ahead, all eyes are now on Tencent’s next moves including its collaboration with Ubisoft and Vantage Studios. With momentum accelerating and a ten billion dollar revenue year reinforcing its approach, Tencent’s impact on the global gaming ecosystem continues to deepen.
