Templar Media Acquires Bible X, the Studio Behind Gate Zero, the Time Traveling Game Where You Play the Bible

Templar Media, a newly established video game publisher founded earlier this year by former Tripwire Interactive chief executive officer John Gibson, has announced its first major acquisition. The company has officially acquired Bible X, the studio currently developing Gate Zero, a time traveling action adventure game that allows players to experience biblical stories firsthand. The acquisition was confirmed through Templar Media’s official announcement.

Templar Media initially entered the industry as the publisher of Gate Zero, positioning the project as its debut title. With this move, the publisher is now taking a more hands on role by fully bringing the development team in house. Gate Zero is described as a narrative driven action adventure in which players control a rebellious teenager from the future who is mistakenly sent back in time, ultimately reliving and interacting with events drawn directly from biblical history. More details about the project are available on the game’s official website.

John Gibson’s return to the games industry has drawn attention given his departure from Tripwire Interactive in 2021. At the time, Gibson stepped down after widespread backlash followed public comments he shared on X formerly Twitter regarding abortion and his support for the Texas abortion ban. Within days of those comments, multiple studios publicly announced they were cutting ties with Tripwire, leading to Gibson’s resignation shortly thereafter. His reemergence at the helm of Templar Media, and with a project so closely tied to religious themes, has unsurprisingly reignited discussion around his leadership and creative direction.

The acquisition announcement was accompanied by renewed visibility for Gate Zero, including previously released footage showcased in the official Gate Zero trailer. While the concept may seem niche to some, the project has already demonstrated tangible financial backing. Gate Zero successfully raised approximately three hundred thirty thousand US dollars through Kickstarter, backed by four thousand one hundred forty five individual donations. In addition, the developers report more than six million euros raised through separate donation channels, signaling strong interest from a dedicated and previously underserved audience.

In a statement included with the acquisition announcement, Gibson emphasized the commercial and creative potential he sees in the project. He stated that from the moment Templar Media encountered Gate Zero, it was clear the game had the potential to be a high quality entertainment product aimed at a large but underserved segment of the gaming market. With Bible X now part of Templar Media, Gibson says the publisher can apply its full experience, resources, and support to deliver what he describes as an entertainment first experience.

Bible X studio head Arve Solli echoed that sentiment, pointing to the broader success of faith based entertainment across other media. He referenced the commercial performance of television and film projects such as The Chosen and The King of Kings as proof that there is a substantial audience seeking high production value content rooted in shared values. According to Solli, Gate Zero aims to meet that demand through a full featured, story rich game that allows players to explore biblical history in a grounded and historically accurate way.

At present, Gate Zero does not have a confirmed release date. The game is planned for launch on PC, Xbox Series X S, and PlayStation 5 once development is complete. With Templar Media now fully invested as both publisher and owner of the studio, the acquisition marks a clear signal that the company intends to build its identity around this project and similar future initiatives.

Whether Gate Zero ultimately resonates beyond its core audience remains to be seen, but the combination of significant crowdfunding support, a clear thematic focus, and now full publisher backing ensures it will remain one of the more unusual and closely watched projects currently in development.
