Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon Open World RPG Launches May 23 for PC and Consoles
Polish independent studio Questline has officially announced the full release date of their ambitious open-world RPG, Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon. Following a two-year journey through Steam Early Access, the game is now set to debut version 1.0 on May 23 for PC as well as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles 【Steam】【PlayStation】【Xbox】
Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon represents a major evolution for Questline, previously known for the critically acclaimed Tainted Grail: Conquest, a hybrid deck-building roguelike RPG released in 2021. This time, the developers are offering a fully immersive first-person open world experience, designed to deliver between 50 to 70 hours of dark fantasy adventure. Players can look forward to a massive content offering, including:
Three expansive zones: Horns of the South, Cuanacht, and Forlorn Swords
250 fully voice-acted unique NPCs, adding depth and personality to the world
Over 200 side quests, promising countless hours of engaging gameplay
More than 60 unique enemy types, each presenting distinct challenges
70+ dungeons filled with secrets, danger, and rewards
A branching main questline with dozens of possible endings, offering extensive replayability
Set in a grim reimagining of Arthurian legend, players will traverse Avalon—a land transformed by six centuries of Camelot's rule—and shape the legacy of King Arthur’s reign with their decisions.
Version 1.0 will also introduce a community-requested third-person camera mode. Although the developers have cautioned that this feature may not be perfect at launch, it has been included to address accessibility issues, such as motion sickness experienced by some players. Additionally, the game will debut a set of brand-new Achievements to mark player progress throughout the epic journey.
Questline teased that the final version of the game is far bigger than originally envisioned, joking that if someone had told them at the start how much content would be included, they would have "laughed hard." Full patch notes are still pending, but the studio promises that version 1.0 is packed with "crazy" amounts of new features and polish.
In a playful nod to Oblivion Remastered, Questline also shared a 'golden horse armor DLC' joke before taking a moment to sincerely celebrate the return of Oblivion. In a heartfelt message posted on Steam, they expressed admiration for Bethesda’s classic RPG, acknowledging it as one of their formative inspirations:
"It is so good to see Oblivion coming back with such style! It is one of the games that shaped us when we were kids/teens, and continues to be a huge source of inspiration. BIG congratulations to the team responsible for the remaster! We can’t wait to get back to Cyrodiil ourselves, but for now… well, we have a game to finish first! And we are honestly doing our best to deliver something unique that we hope you will remember for quite a long time."
Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon is shaping up to be a monumental addition to the RPG genre, blending deep lore, dynamic questing, and dark fantasy worldbuilding in a package that aims to leave a lasting impression.
