Surgent Studios Confirms July 31 Release Date for Horror Game Dead Take

Surgent Studios, the team behind Tales of Kenzera: ZAU, has officially announced that their upcoming psychological horror title Dead Take will launch on July 31, 2025, and it arrives with one of the most impressive voice casts assembled in recent video game history.

Originally teased with the inclusion of award-winning actors Ben Starr (Final Fantasy XVI) and Neil Newbon (Baldur’s Gate 3), the full cast now includes Matt Mercer, Laura Bailey, Jane Perry, Sam Lake, Alanah Pearce, CDawgVA, and Travis Willingham a dream lineup of celebrated voice talent from games and entertainment.

"Dead Take is about actors. So we needed actors who've lived it," explained Dead Take creator and Surgent Studios founder Abubakar Salim in the game’s official press release. “It’s a game about the high ambition and the rot underneath it. The lies we tell ourselves to get in the spotlight, and the monsters we become to stay there. Everyone in this cast has felt that pressure. This was a chance to bleed it out.”

Set in a haunting, surreal Hollywood landscape, Dead Take follows the story of Chase Lowry, portrayed by Newbon, as he searches for his missing friend Vinny Monroe, played by Starr. Monroe mysteriously disappears during a glitzy yet unsettling Hollywood party, sending Lowry spiraling into a nightmarish descent through deception, fear, and the dark underbelly of ambition.

The game combines psychological horror, mystery, and narrative-driven exploration, promising an atmospheric journey that reflects on fame, identity, and the performance behind the performance. With its layered storytelling, eerie set pieces, and masterclass voice performances, Dead Take is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated horror releases of 2025.

Launching across multiple platforms on July 31, Dead Take looks poised to leave a lasting impression on fans of cinematic horror experiences.
