Stellar Blade Is Not Finished as Shift Up Teases More Changes Before BLOOD RAIN

Shift Up is not finished with the original Stellar Blade, even as development moves forward on its sequel, Stellar Blade BLOOD RAIN. Speaking during Tokyo Game Show 2026, Shift Up CEO and Stellar Blade Director Kim Hyung tae suggested that additional changes could still come to the 2024 action game around the time its sequel arrives, pushing the original title beyond what might otherwise appear to be its final Complete Edition release. Kim did not announce a new expansion, gameplay overhaul, or specific content roadmap, but his comments make clear that Shift Up still has plans for Eve’s original adventure.

"It's not finished yet. There might be some changes in Stellar Blade when the sequel comes out."
— Quote by: Kim Hyung tae.

The comment came during a 4Gamer interview at Tokyo Game Show 2026 after Kim was asked whether the upcoming Complete Edition represented the finished version of Stellar Blade. His answer was deliberately open ended, saying Shift Up wants to continue doing things for players who remain invested in the game. That leaves plenty of room for interpretation, but there is currently no confirmation that the studio is preparing a large story expansion or something comparable to the extensive post launch additions seen in games such as Crimson Desert. That comparison comes from the secondary report rather than from Kim himself.

The timing is interesting because Shift Up is preparing Stellar Blade Complete Edition for Nintendo Switch 2 on November 6. The package includes the base game, previously released NieR Automata and Goddess of Victory NIKKE content, additional Complete Edition bonuses, and the upcoming Bayonetta collaboration. Shift Up says the 4 new Bayonetta outfits will also arrive free on PlayStation 5 and PC, meaning continued support is already extending beyond the new Nintendo release. Kim also told 4Gamer that the Switch 2 version can maintain around 50 to 60 FPS in handheld mode, while Shift Up has confirmed that the physical edition includes the entire game on the cartridge without requiring a separate game key card or additional download.

Attention is increasingly shifting toward BLOOD RAIN, which Shift Up officially revealed during Summer Game Fest 2026. Previously the announcement in Summer Game Fest 2026 roundup, where the sequel was confirmed as another entry in the Stellar Blade universe. Kim told 4Gamer that BLOOD RAIN is being designed so newcomers can enjoy it without playing the original, but players familiar with Stellar Blade should notice additional connections and details between the 2 games. He described the relationship as mutually supportive, suggesting the sequel may also change how players interpret parts of the first game.

Shift Up is also changing parts of its production process for the sequel. The original Stellar Blade relied heavily on physical models and scanning when creating characters and creatures, but Kim explained that BLOOD RAIN needs considerably more content, making that approach difficult to use for everything. The team is now combining its traditional scanning process with other production methods to support the increased scope. That may ultimately be more significant than simply adding more content to the original game, since it points toward a sequel being built with larger production requirements from the beginning.

Kim’s comments are intentionally vague, so it would be premature to describe Stellar Blade as following the same strategy as Crimson Desert. Shift Up has not announced a major expansion, world overhaul, or long term content plan. What it has confirmed is that the original game may continue changing even after the Complete Edition arrives, potentially creating stronger links between Stellar Blade and BLOOD RAIN.

That is the more interesting possibility. Instead of treating the first game as completely finished before moving on, Shift Up could use future updates to strengthen continuity between both titles, introduce systems connected to the sequel, or simply give returning players another reason to revisit Eve’s story. Whatever form those changes take, the Complete Edition apparently will not be the final word on Stellar Blade.

What would you like Shift Up to add to the original Stellar Blade before BLOOD RAIN arrives: new story content, bosses, combat systems, or additional areas?
