Starfield Developer Teases Story DLC, Space Gameplay Changes and New Systems

Bethesda Game Studios has released a new Developer Spotlight video, offering a look into the career of Lead Creative Producer Tim Lamb while also teasing upcoming content and features for Starfield.

Lamb, who has been with Bethesda since The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and has credits on Fallout 3, Skyrim, Fallout 4, Fallout 76, and most recently Starfield, hinted at both a new story DLC and significant gameplay additions.

Starfield is sort of the culmination. It does so many of the things that those other games do, but like four times as much. Everything is what we did before, plus more fidelity, more complexity. To me, Starfield was like making four games. You have your running around, shooting aliens and space guys. You have your flying around in a spaceship, shooting other spaceships. You have the ship builder game, you have the outpost game,” Lamb explained.

He continued by teasing new features:
We have some cool stuff coming, including free updates and features the players have been asking for, as well as a new DLC story. I can't go into all the details just yet, but I will say part of the team has been focused on space gameplay to make the travels there more rewarding. We're also adding some new game systems and a few other smaller delights. There's also some really interesting stuff coming down the pipe from our verified creators. We can't wait to get it into the hands of our players.

Dataminers recently uncovered references to an interplanetary travel mechanic, which has long been a point of contention for players given its absence in the base game. While Lamb did not directly confirm this, his comments suggest that space travel is about to become a much deeper and more rewarding aspect of the overall experience.

As for story content, this will be the second expansion after Shattered Space. Rumors point to a 2026 release, potentially aligning with the long-awaited PlayStation 5 launch of Starfield, which has yet to be officially confirmed.

With Bethesda continuing to refine its biggest release in years, fans have plenty to look forward to both in terms of free updates and paid expansions.

What’s the single biggest feature you think Bethesda needs to add to make Starfield feel like the space epic it was meant to be?
