Saber Interactive Officially Reveals Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival – A New Survival Horror Adaptation Headed to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC
Saber Interactive and Boss Team Games have officially announced Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival, a single-player, story-driven survival horror game based on the dark and iconic Hellraiser universe. The announcement, made through an official Xbox blog post, confirms what many fans had already suspected after a recent teaser hinted at a new horror project. The game will launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, though a specific release date has not yet been confirmed.
Described by executive producer Nenad Tomic as “a single-player, survival horror action game,” Hellraiser: Revival follows a new protagonist, Aidan, who is thrust into the haunting realm of the Labyrinth after his girlfriend Sunny is taken by the infamous Cenobite leader Pinhead through a mysterious puzzle box known as the Genesis Configuration. The announcement was accompanied by a cinematic trailer, offering a first glimpse into the game’s unsettling visual tone and supernatural horror atmosphere.
Clive Barker, author of The Hellbound Heart—the novella that inspired the original Hellraiser film—has played a central role in shaping the game’s development. Tomic emphasized Barker’s influence, stating, “From the visual style and story motifs to the lore and the character personalities, his creative input has ensured that the game remains authentic to the spirit of Hellraiser.”
In the official press release, Barker himself shared his thoughts on the project:
“Working on the first true Hellraiser game has been a venture deep into the recesses of my darkest imaginings. The dedication that Saber and Boss Team Games have shown is nothing short of remarkable. They’ve immersed themselves in the Hellraiser universe, capturing its essence—the seductive pull of suffering, the beauty within the grotesque—and forged a narrative that invites players to step beyond the threshold. I’m eager for both the curious and the damned to experience this new chapter in the Hellraiser mythos, where every moment balances on the brink of nightmare and revelation.”
While Revival draws inspiration from the first two Hellraiser films, Tomic clarifies that the game tells a standalone story set in the same mythos. Longtime fans can expect to encounter familiar lore and imagery, including the Cenobites and the labyrinthine otherworld, but the game will not be a direct adaptation or sequel.
Saber Interactive has yet to confirm an exact release date, but teased that the game is “closer than you think,” with more details scheduled to be unveiled later this year. Given the horror genre’s affinity for October releases and the current state of development, a Halloween 2025 launch would seem fitting.
The news marks an exciting milestone not only for horror fans but also for those who have long awaited a faithful interactive adaptation of Barker’s twisted world. With the direct creative involvement of the legendary author and a narrative-driven horror experience at its core, Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival could be the definitive video game translation of the franchise.
