RUINER 2 Announced for PC as a Co Op Cyberpunk Action RPG

Reikon Games has officially announced RUINER 2 for PC, bringing back the world of its 2017 cult hit with a much bigger gameplay ambition this time around. While the original RUINER built its reputation as a fast, stylish twin stick action shooter, the sequel is being positioned as a cyberpunk action RPG with co op support and a far deeper systems driven structure.

According to Reikon Games, RUINER 2 takes players back to Rengkok, the same brutal cyberpunk setting from the first game, but now with a much broader role playing focus. Players step into the role of a hacker who can control up to 3 different bodies known as Shells and swap between them instantly during combat. Rather than locking players into a single class or fixed progression route, the sequel is built around experimentation, letting players unlock new Shells by defeating bosses and then mix their abilities into different combat setups.

That shift is arguably the game’s biggest hook. Each Shell comes with its own playstyle, 4 skills, 2 branching progression nodes for each skill, and a dedicated resource system built around Power, CPU, and Memory. Reikon says this system is designed so every equipment choice comes with a meaningful tradeoff, while a wider passive progression layer called the Neural Network shapes the effectiveness of the broader Shell roster. In practical terms, RUINER 2 looks far less like a straightforward sequel and more like a complete reinvention of the original formula into something with much more replayability and build variety.

The studio is also pushing scale much harder than before. In single player, players can control a team of up to 3 Shells at once, effectively functioning as a one person combat squad. In co op, up to 3 players can join together, bringing as many as 6 Shells into battle across the team. Reikon says this opens the door to far more synergy based combat, where different abilities can interact and stack into larger combos and stronger battlefield control. The studio has also confirmed an endless endgame mode built around escalating tiers, tougher enemies, and better loot, which suggests it wants RUINER 2 to keep players engaged long after the main progression loop is complete.

Reikon’s statement from game director Marek Roefler makes that design philosophy very clear. He said the team built the Shell System around the idea of theory crafting, broken combinations, and the freedom to swap builds on the fly instead of staying locked into one character for 100 hours. That is a strong signal that RUINER 2 is aiming for a more hardcore action RPG audience, especially players who enjoy build optimization, synergies, and experimentation rather than a purely linear combat experience.

The Steam page also lists the minimum PC requirements already, which are fairly accessible for a modern action RPG.

  • OS: Windows 10 64-bit

  • PROCESSOR: AMD Ryzen 5 2600 / Intel Core i5-8400

  • MEMORY: 8 GB RAM

  • GRAPHICS: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 (6GB) / AMD Radeon RX 580 (8GB)

  • DIRECTX: Version 12

  • NETWORK: Broadband Internet connection

  • STORAGE: 10 GB available space

At this stage, only a PC version has been officially announced, but the first RUINER eventually expanded to PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch after its initial launch. That history makes it entirely possible that RUINER 2 could reach consoles later as well, even if Reikon is currently leading with the PC version. For now, though, the announcement already positions this as one of the more interesting cyberpunk action reveals of the year, especially for players looking for a stylish combat heavy RPG with co op and strong build experimentation.

Are you more interested in RUINER 2 because of its co op combat, or because Reikon is turning the series into a much deeper action RPG this time?
