Insomniac’s Venom Game Is Reportedly Still Alive Despite Miles Morales Actor Claiming It Was Canceled
Insomniac Games’ standalone Venom project may still be alive, despite recent comments from Miles Morales actor Nadji Jeter suggesting that the game had been canceled. The rumor began after Jeter appeared in an interview with the YouTube channel Love it Film, where he claimed that Insomniac had planned both a Venom game and Venom DLC before the death of Tony Todd, who voiced Venom in Marvel’s Spider Man 2.
Jeter’s comments quickly spread across the Spider Man and PlayStation community because the source was not a random rumor account. As the voice actor behind Miles Morales in Insomniac’s Spider Man games, Jeter is directly connected to the franchise and would naturally be seen as someone with at least some knowledge of past plans.
“Let me give y'all an exclusive. We were going to have a Venom game. Yeah, we were going to have a Venom game and a Venom DLC, but we lost Tony Todd. They showed me how it was going to start. They showed me how everything was going to be. It was gonna be a Venom video game. Like, just straight Venom out.

Jeter attributed the alleged cancellation to the death of Tony Todd, who passed away in November 2024. Todd’s performance as Venom in Marvel’s Spider Man 2 was widely praised, and his loss was deeply felt by fans, cast members, and the wider entertainment community. Jeter also spoke emotionally about his relationship with Todd, describing him as family and recalling how difficult his passing was.
“They were going to make a Venom video game, but then, you know, we lost my uncle Tony Todd. We lost my uncle Tony Todd, and I love him to death and I still wish he was here.

However, shortly after Jeter’s comments began circulating, multiple credible sources pushed back against the claim that the Venom game had been canceled. On ResetEra, a verified game developer stated that the claim contradicted what had been discussed at GDC 2026, noting that Tony Todd had already passed away long before that event.
“Unless it was canceled in the past 2 or so weeks… this runs contradictory to what was being discussed at GDC. And Todd died way before GDC 2026.

Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier then directly refuted the cancellation claim in the same ResetEra thread.
“This isn't true.

That does not necessarily mean Jeter was intentionally wrong. It is possible he was referring to an earlier version of the project, a planned DLC concept, a version involving Tony Todd more directly, or internal plans that changed after Marvel’s Wolverine took priority. Game development pipelines shift constantly, especially across large studios working on multiple Marvel projects. A project can be delayed, restructured, recast, or repositioned without being fully canceled.
The standalone Venom game first became known through the 2023 Insomniac ransomware leak, which exposed several future project plans. At the time, the Venom project appeared to be positioned as one of the studio’s next releases after Marvel’s Spider Man 2. However, Marvel’s Wolverine later became Insomniac’s major public focus, and it now appears to be the studio’s next big Marvel title.
A few months ago, MP1st reported that the Venom game was still in development, with Eddie Brock expected to serve as the host of the alien symbiote this time. That would mark a major shift from Marvel’s Spider Man 2, where Harry Osborn played the central Venom role. The report also suggested that Carnage, Venom’s darker and more violent symbiote offspring, would appear as a major threat.
If accurate, that direction would make sense for a standalone Venom game. Eddie Brock is the most iconic Venom host in Marvel history, and Carnage is widely considered Venom’s definitive villain. A game centered around Eddie and Carnage would allow Insomniac to explore a darker, more brutal corner of its Spider Man universe while separating Venom’s identity from Harry Osborn’s story.
The biggest creative challenge now is Tony Todd’s absence. His voice gave Insomniac’s Venom a powerful presence, and replacing or reworking that performance would be difficult. However, recasting is not unusual in long running game franchises, especially when a character is too important to retire completely. If Eddie Brock becomes the new host, Insomniac could also justify a different voice direction for Venom while still respecting Todd’s legacy.
The current situation highlights how complicated leaked game roadmaps can become. A leaked project may be real, but the final version can change significantly before release. Characters may change. Release windows may shift. Storylines may be rewritten. DLC ideas may become standalone games, and standalone concepts may be folded into larger releases. Without official confirmation from Sony or Insomniac, every report needs to be treated carefully.
For now, the strongest information suggests that Insomniac’s Venom game has not been canceled. Jeter’s comments created understandable concern, but the quick pushback from credible sources indicates the project is still alive, even if its exact scope, cast, and release timing remain unclear.
With Marvel’s Wolverine currently set to launch on September 15, 2026, it is unlikely that Insomniac will fully reveal Venom before Wolverine has its own marketing window. If the project is still in active development, a reveal in the next couple of years would be a reasonable expectation. Sony may want to keep the spotlight on Wolverine first, then position Venom as the next major expansion of Insomniac’s Marvel universe.
For PlayStation fans, the takeaway is cautiously positive. The Venom game appears to still exist, but it may not be the same version that was originally shown internally or referenced by Jeter. Until Insomniac or Sony makes an official announcement, the project remains one of PlayStation’s most anticipated unconfirmed titles.
Would you prefer Insomniac’s Venom game to focus on Eddie Brock and Carnage, or continue the story threads left behind by Marvel’s Spider Man 2?
