Resident Evil Revelations Remake Rumor Surfaces as CAPCOM Weighs Reported Return to the Spin Off Horror Line

A fresh Resident Evil rumor is putting the Revelations subseries back into the spotlight. Known CAPCOM leaker Dusk Golem claimed on X that the possibility of a Resident Evil Revelations remake has been discussed internally, suggesting that CAPCOM has at least considered revisiting the 2012 survival horror title as part of its broader franchise roadmap. At this stage, there is no official confirmation from CAPCOM, so the report should be treated strictly as rumor rather than announcement.

According to the leaker’s comment, the idea of a Resident Evil Revelations remake has been “tossed around,” which is a very different signal from saying the project is fully approved or in active production. That distinction matters. CAPCOM has a long history of evaluating multiple projects internally, and until the company makes a public statement, this remains a possibility under consideration rather than a title fans should expect on the release calendar.

The rumor becomes more interesting when viewed in the context of the people currently guiding the franchise. Resident Evil Revelations was directed by Koshi Nakanishi, who is also tied to more recent major entries in the series and is currently connected to Resident Evil Requiem, CAPCOM’s newest officially released entry. That gives the Revelations name a little more internal relevance than some fans may assume, especially as CAPCOM continues to rotate trusted creative leads across its biggest survival horror projects.

For players who missed the original release, Resident Evil Revelations first launched on Nintendo 3DS in 2012 before later expanding to more platforms. The game was set between Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5, following Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield through a bioterror investigation tied to the Queen Zenobia cruise ship, the organization Veltro, and the T Abyss virus. Its design leaned more heavily into tension, limited resources, and a tighter survival horror structure than the more action driven direction the franchise had taken around that era.

That is one reason the remake rumor has traction with longtime fans. Revelations was often seen as a strong concept with a compelling setting, but it also carried some handheld era limitations in controls, pacing, and technical presentation. A modern remake could potentially sharpen the atmosphere, refine combat feel, and update the episodic storytelling structure in a way that better fits CAPCOM’s current production standards. In today’s market, where the company has already demonstrated the commercial strength of reimagined survival horror with recent remake projects, Revelations is not a hard pitch to imagine.

Its sequel also remains part of the conversation. Resident Evil Revelations 2 launched in 2015 and continued the subseries with Claire Redfield, Barry Burton, and an episodic release model of its own. While neither Revelations title is usually placed at the very top of fan rankings beside the most iconic numbered entries, both games still occupy an important middle space in the franchise by blending classic horror sensibilities with more modern action structure. That makes them particularly attractive candidates if CAPCOM wants to expand its remake pipeline without relying only on the biggest mainline names. Still, there is one part of the rumor that should be approached carefully. Claims about broader long term timelines, including alleged future remakes and distant launch windows, remain unverified.

From a gamer and market perspective, a Resident Evil Revelations remake would make strategic sense. It offers Jill Valentine, ocean liner horror, a compact but memorable setting, and a survival horror formula that could benefit significantly from modern production values. It also gives CAPCOM another way to monetize one of gaming’s strongest horror brands without exhausting the main numbered line too quickly. Whether that internal discussion actually turns into a greenlit remake is the question fans will now be watching closely.

Would you like to see Resident Evil Revelations remade first, or do you think CAPCOM should give Resident Evil Revelations 2 the same treatment as well?
