Resident Evil Requiem Story Expansion Confirmed as Capcom Teases New Mini Game Surprise for May

Capcom has officially confirmed that Resident Evil Requiem is getting more post launch content, and the biggest news is that a story expansion is now in development. In a new video message shared by director Koshi Nakanishi through the official Resident Evil update, the team confirmed that more support is on the way beyond recent bug fixes and performance updates.

According to Nakanishi, the next wave of additions will include the long awaited photo mode as well as a new mini game planned for around May. Capcom has not yet revealed exactly what that mini game will be, but the wording makes it clear that this is meant to be a meaningful extra mode rather than a simple menu side feature. For a game that currently leans heavily on the strength of its main campaign, any new playable mode could become an important part of its replay value going forward.

The bigger headline, however, is the confirmation of extra story content. Nakanishi said the team is planning to “delve deeper into the world of Requiem” with the expansion, while also making it clear that the project is still in active development and will take time before players see the final result. That statement is especially important because it shifts the conversation from rumor to official confirmation. The extra story chapter is no longer speculation. It is now part of Capcom’s announced support roadmap for the game.

From a broader franchise perspective, this approach fits well with how Capcom has handled major Resident Evil releases in the past. The series has often benefited from extra modes and post launch story content that give players new reasons to revisit a campaign after the initial credits roll. In Resident Evil Requiem, that matters even more because the core release focused so heavily on atmosphere, pacing, and campaign design rather than a wide menu of side modes at launch. The addition of both a mini game and a story expansion suggests Capcom wants to widen the game’s long term appeal without undercutting its original identity.

There is still one important unknown. While Capcom has confirmed the content categories, it has not shared firm release dates for photo mode or the story expansion, and the May surprise remains unnamed. That leaves room for plenty of speculation, especially from fans hoping for something with the same replay pull that extra combat focused modes have brought to past entries. For now, though, the confirmed takeaway is already strong enough: Resident Evil Requiem is not done yet, and Capcom is preparing both a new side activity and a deeper narrative extension to keep the game growing after launch.

What would you most like Capcom to do with Resident Evil Requiem’s May mini game: bring back a combat focused extra mode, try something experimental, or lean further into horror?
