Nacon and ACE Team Reveal First Gameplay Trailer for The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu, Launching Summer 2026
During the latest Xbox Partner Preview showcase, one of the standout moments was the debut gameplay trailer for The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu, the upcoming four player online cooperative horror game from ACE Team and Nacon. While previous teasers focused primarily on setting and tone, this is the first time players have seen the title’s gameplay in action, offering a much clearer picture of what awaits when it arrives next year.
Originally announced in March 2025 through Gematsu, The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu was initially targeted for release before the end of 2025. The project was later shifted to 2026, as confirmed by Nacon and ACE Team in their update shared via X. With this new gameplay trailer, the studios have now pinned down a more specific window, confirming that the game will launch in Summer 2026 across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S.
The experience places players on an isolated island where a cursed jungle is steadily distorting reality. The environment manipulates perception, creating a tense atmosphere in which the line between ally and enemy is constantly blurred. This distorted reality is further amplified by the game’s emphasis on older weaponry. Players rely on historical firearms that reload slowly and offer limited chances to land a decisive shot, intensifying the pressure during encounters. Missing a first shot can easily turn into a fatal mistake.
The short but impactful trailer highlights the game’s oppressive ambiance, showcasing dense foliage, nightmarish distortions of reality, and a visual design that leans heavily into Lovecraftian horror. ACE Team is known for its surreal art direction and unconventional worldbuilding, and The Mound appears to continue that legacy with a 16th century inspired setting built around dread, paranoia, and slow building tension.
As the first gameplay reveal, the trailer establishes a strong foundation for what could become one of the more unique cooperative horror experiences on the market. With its blend of psychological horror, period accurate firearms, and a shifting environment designed to keep players constantly uncertain, The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu is shaping up to be one of the notable horror releases to watch in 2026.
