PlayStation 5 System Software Update Arrives September 17 with DualSense Multi-Device Pairing and Power Saver Mode

Sony has confirmed that a new PlayStation 5 system software update will roll out on September 17, 2025, bringing several long-awaited features that beta testers have already had access to for months. Details were shared through the official PlayStation Blog.

DualSense Multi-Device Pairing

Players will now be able to register their DualSense wireless controller with up to four devices simultaneously, including PS5 consoles, PCs, and potentially other hardware. Switching between devices can be done directly from the controller, eliminating the need to constantly unpair and re-pair. This feature is particularly beneficial for those who use their DualSense on both PlayStation and PC.

Power Saver Mode

The update also introduces Power Saver mode, accessible via:
Settings → System → Power Saving → Use Power Saver

While the mode is currently limited in scope, Sony revealed that it will be supported by select games. Death Stranding 2: On the Beach and Demon’s Souls will receive updates to integrate Power Saver functionality, and the upcoming Ghost of Yotei will support it at launch.

Interestingly, this move appears to align with speculation that the feature is optimized for the rumored PlayStation handheld system expected to launch alongside the PlayStation 6, suggesting forward compatibility.

The update will begin rolling out automatically starting September 17. Players who wish to install it manually can do so by navigating to:
Settings → System → System Software → System Software Update and Settings.

While Power Saver mode may have limited immediate appeal, the DualSense multi-device pairing option is a quality-of-life feature that many users will appreciate, particularly those who frequently game across different platforms.

Which of these new features excites you more, the Power Saver mode for future-proof gaming, or the multi-device pairing that makes life easier for DualSense owners?
