GameStop Reportedly Lists Used PS5 Pro Consoles at $1,399.99

GameStop is facing fresh criticism after a Reddit post claimed the retailer is pricing used PlayStation 5 Pro consoles far above the cost of a new unit. The post, shared on the GameStop subreddit, shows what appears to be an internal pricing update for several pre owned PS5 Pro models, including standard white units, 30th Anniversary models and Wolverine themed variants. If accurate, the listed retail values place used systems well above Sony’s current $899.99 United States price for a new PS5 Pro.

Source disclaimer: The pricing table below is based on the image shared in the Reddit post and has not been publicly confirmed by GameStop. Until the company provides an official statement, the information should be treated as a reported retail pricing update rather than a verified nationwide policy.

SKU Title Retail Value Change Trade Value Change
416576 PS5 Pro Digital White Used $1,399.99 $800.00
417018 PS5 Pro Physical White Used $1,499.99 $850.00
419135 PS5 Pro Physical 30th Anniversary Used $1,499.99 $850.00
451741 PS5 Pro Physical Wolverine Adamantium Used $1,499.99 $850.00
451795 PS5 Pro Physical Wolverine Yellow Used $1,499.99 $850.00
451737 PS5 Pro Digital Wolverine Adamantium Used $1,399.99 $800.00
451787 PS5 Pro Digital Wolverine Yellow Used $1,399.99 $800.00
419130 PS5 Pro Digital 30th Anniversary Used $1,399.99 $800.00

Pre owned hardware is normally expected to sell below new retail pricing, which is why the reported listing quickly drew backlash. The table also suggests a clear split between digital and physical units, with digital models listed at the lower used retail value and physical models listed higher. GameStop has not publicly explained the specific pricing shown in the Reddit post, so it should be treated as a reported retail listing rather than a confirmed company wide policy statement.

The timing has pushed many players to connect the price jump with growing demand around GTA VI. Rockstar’s next Grand Theft Auto is expected to be one of the largest console releases of the generation, and players looking for the best console version may naturally gravitate toward the PS5 Pro. That does not mean GTA VI is the confirmed reason for GameStop’s pricing, but it does explain why PS5 Pro demand is becoming more sensitive as the game’s launch window approaches.

For buyers, the practical advice is simple: do not rush into a used PS5 Pro at inflated pricing unless there is no other option. Check Sony Direct, major retailers, local stores and restock alerts before paying above retail. If a used unit costs more than a new one, the value proposition becomes extremely weak unless it includes meaningful extras, warranty coverage or unavailable regional stock.

This also reflects a wider problem in console retail. When demand spikes and new stock becomes limited, the used market can stop behaving like a discount channel and start behaving like a scarcity market. That is bad for consumers, especially when the hardware is not a limited edition product and does not include additional performance beyond a standard PS5 Pro.

The reported GameStop pricing is difficult to defend from a consumer perspective. Used hardware should normally offer a better value proposition, not move into territory that feels closer to scarcity pricing. The listed trade values also make the situation more frustrating because they suggest a large gap between what the retailer may pay for the hardware and what buyers could be asked to pay at checkout.

The GTA VI angle makes the situation even more important. If demand for the best console experience pushes players toward PS5 Pro, retailers and resellers will have a strong incentive to test how far the market can stretch. That is exactly why buyers should be careful. Paying above retail for used hardware only makes sense in extreme cases, and a mainstream console should not be treated like a rare collectible months before a major game arrives.

Would you pay above retail for a used PS5 Pro to be ready for GTA VI, or would you wait for new stock at the official price?
