NVIDIA Launches GeForce RTX 5050 Laptop GPU with GDDR7 Memory and 10% Performance Boost Over RTX 4050

NVIDIA has officially announced the GeForce RTX 5050 Laptop GPU, expanding its next-generation RTX 50 series lineup. While the desktop variant remains unreleased, NVIDIA has lifted the embargo on mobile versions in China, allowing laptop manufacturers like ASUS and Mechrevo to launch RTX 5050-powered laptops immediately. The GPU targets entry-level gamers and creators seeking a balance of efficiency and performance at competitive pricing.

One of the first laptop models to feature the new GPU is the Mechrevo Kuangshi X, while ASUS has launched the TianXuan 6 Edition, featuring an Intel Core i7-14650HX and starting at ¥6559 CNY (approx. $913 USD). These laptops are only around $30–$40 cheaper than RTX 5060 systems, providing users a lower-cost alternative with respectable generational gains.

As reported via Weibo, the RTX 5050 Laptop GPU leverages the GB207 GPU die and offers:

  • 2,560 CUDA cores

  • 8GB GDDR7 memory

  • 128-bit memory interface

  • 384 GB/s bandwidth

  • 115W TDP

Despite rumors of a GDDR6-equipped desktop variant, this mobile version confirms the adoption of GDDR7 memory, signaling a possible upgrade in the desktop release scheduled for July 1st, 2025.

Benchmark results are already surfacing, showcasing clear improvements over the RTX 4050. In 3DMark Time Spy, the RTX 5050 scores 10,269 points, reflecting a 9% boost over its predecessor. In 3DMark Port Royal, it outperforms the RTX 4050 by 27%, though it still lags behind the RTX 5060 by about 18%.

Compared to the RTX 4050, the RTX 5050 also provides a more substantial uplift in ray tracing and raster performance. This makes it an attractive option for budget-conscious users looking to experience next-gen features like DLSS 3 and ray-traced visuals without leaping to higher-priced models.

The RTX 5050 marks a transitional GPU release ahead of NVIDIA’s rumored “SUPER” refresh cycle. With the desktop version on the horizon and broader global availability expected soon, this laptop launch provides a preview of what the lower tier of RTX 50 series will deliver.

Do you think the RTX 5050 offers enough of a leap over the RTX 4050 to justify the upgrade? Or are you holding out for the desktop variant? Let’s talk below.
