NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Becomes the Most Popular RTX 50 Series GPU on Steam and Overtakes the RTX 4070
The latest Steam Hardware Survey results are live, offering the second to last snapshot of the PC gaming landscape before the end of two thousand twenty five. With new GPUs from NVIDIA and AMD now several months into their lifecycle, the platform’s usage statistics paint a clear picture of how this year’s launches are performing among mainstream players.
NVIDIA maintains a commanding lead in overall GPU share on Steam with 73.83 percent. AMD holds second place at 18.05 percent, while Intel continues its steady progress at 7.74 percent. These numbers reaffirm NVIDIA’s dominance on the platform, particularly as new Ada Next and RTX 50 series products roll out.
On the VRAM distribution side, 8 gigabyte graphics cards remain the most common configuration among Steam users at 33.36 percent. However, the share of 8, 6, and 4 gigabyte GPUs continues to decline as modern games demand higher VRAM capacities. This shift has fueled rapid adoption of 12 gigabyte GPUs, which now represent 19.22 percent of all Steam users. Sixteen gigabyte GPUs have climbed to 8.13 percent, while even thirty two gigabyte cards show a small increase in share thanks to premium models such as the RTX 5090.
When reviewing the Top Ten GPUs on Steam, the RTX 4060 Laptop GPU remains the most widely used card with a 4.44 percent share. It is followed by the RTX 3060, RTX 4060, RTX 3050, GTX 1650, RTX 4060 Ti, RTX 3060 Ti, RTX 3070, RTX 3060 Laptop, and a combined category of AMD Radeon GPUs which totals 2.24 percent.
The most notable movement appears just outside the Top Ten. In eleventh place is the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070, now the most popular GPU in the RTX 50 series. The card saw a significant 0.35 percent increase in user share during November, bringing it to 2.23 percent, which surpasses the RTX 4070 at 2.16 percent. Priced at 549 United States dollars, the RTX 5070 continues to gain traction among gamers seeking next generation performance without stepping into ultra premium pricing.
Across the broader RTX 50 family, all models saw increases in adoption this month. The RTX 5070 leads the group, followed by the RTX 5060 at 1.62 percent and the RTX 5060 Ti at 1.20 percent. These gains are expected to continue through the holiday shopping period, particularly as retailers promote seasonal deals.
However, rising component prices may influence buying patterns. With both NVIDIA and AMD expected to adjust GPU pricing due to the ongoing memory market surge, some consumers may rush to purchase current generation models before potential price hikes take effect, creating a short term buying spike.
The GPU market remains one of the most dynamic segments of the PC hardware industry. With shifting VRAM requirements, pricing pressure from the DRAM supply chain, and the continued growth of laptop gaming, the Steam Hardware Survey provides valuable visibility into consumer behavior as two thousand twenty five comes to a close.
Do you think the RTX 5070’s momentum will continue into next year, or will pricing and memory market challenges slow the adoption of newer GPUs
