NVIDIA DLSS 4 Introduces Revolutionary Multi-Frame Generation for Up to 8x Performance Boost
At CES 2025, NVIDIA unveiled DLSS 4, the next generation of its AI-powered upscaling technology, designed to deliver groundbreaking performance improvements and visual fidelity. With the introduction of Multi-Frame Generation, DLSS 4 promises up to an 8x performance boost compared to traditional rendering on the GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs.
Multi-Frame Generation
DLSS 4's Multi-Frame Generation produces up to three AI-generated frames per rendered frame, revolutionizing gaming performance. On a GeForce RTX 5090, this technology enables 4K 240 FPS gaming with ray tracing enabled, as demonstrated in Cyberpunk 2077.
Transformer-Based AI Models
DLSS 4 introduces the industry's first transformer-based AI models for:
Ray Reconstruction: Improved temporal stability and reduced ghosting in ray-traced scenes.
Super Resolution: Enhanced clarity and detail in motion.
Deep Learning Anti-Aliasing (DLAA): Refined edge smoothness for all RTX GPUs.
Enhanced Efficiency
The Blackwell Tensor Cores, DLSS 4 is 40% faster, uses 30% less VRAM, and requires fewer processing steps. For example, in Warhammer 40,000: Darktide, DLSS 4 reduced memory usage by 400MB at 4K max settings.
Game and App Integration
75 games and applications will support Multi-Frame Generation at launch, with compatibility extended to DLSS Ray Reconstruction and Super Resolution for all RTX GPUs. Upcoming updates include:
Cyberpunk 2077
Alan Wake 2
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle
Star Wars Outlaws
New titles launching with native DLSS 4 support include:
Black State
DOOM: The Dark Ages
Dune: Awakening
With the NVIDIA app, users can enable DLSS 4 features for older games via DLSS Override, ensuring all RTX GPUs benefit from the latest AI advancements.
With DLSS 4, NVIDIA cements its leadership in AI-enhanced graphics, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in gaming. Whether you’re looking for smoother gameplay, higher frame rates, or improved visuals, DLSS 4 delivers on all fronts.
