FromSoftware Confirms Elden Ring Nightreign DLC in Development as the Game Surpasses Expectations
FromSoftware and its parent company Kadokawa Corporation have confirmed that new DLC for Elden Ring Nightreign is currently in development, following the game’s stronger-than-expected commercial performance. In the company’s second-quarter 2025 fiscal report, Kadokawa revealed that while Nightreign performed “well beyond initial expectations,” overall gaming division revenue still declined compared to last year, largely because Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree had an exceptionally strong impact on the company’s 2024 results.
Released in May 2025, Elden Ring Nightreign quickly became one of the year’s breakout titles, surpassing 5 million copies sold worldwide within weeks of launch. This is a remarkable achievement for a multiplayer-focused spin-off, given that FromSoftware’s core audience typically favors single-player experiences. Still, Kadokawa’s financial report clarifies that Nightreign’s success could not match the phenomenal sales spike that Shadow of the Erdtree generated.
“In Gaming, sales decreased despite the domestic and international strong performance of Elden Ring Nightreign, compared to the previous year, which benefited significantly from the contributions of the Elden Ring DLC,” Kadokawa stated.
Under the “Future Outlook” section of its presentation, Kadokawa confirmed that FromSoftware is actively developing new DLC for Elden Ring Nightreign, scheduled for release within the company’s current fiscal year, which ends in March 2026.
Since launch, Nightreign has received several content updates, including a Duos mode, new boss challenges, and an added higher difficulty tier, offering veteran players an increased challenge. However, post-launch support has been sporadic, drawing criticism from parts of the player base.
A recent Steam review from a long-time FromSoftware fan with over 160 hours of playtime expressed disappointment over the perceived lack of updates, stating:
“The post-launch support is practically nonexistent. It has been months since release and we got no new boss, no new map, no new characters, no events, nothing. For a game of this scale, that is embarrassing.”
This sentiment has been echoed by many players who feel Nightreign’s momentum has slowed significantly, despite its promising gameplay foundation and initial success.
The confirmation of new DLC offers some reassurance that FromSoftware remains committed to the project, though the timing could prove critical. If the expansion releases closer to March 2026, it might struggle to reignite the enthusiasm of early players who have already moved on. However, if Nightreign’s upcoming DLC arrives sooner, it could revitalize the community and reaffirm confidence in FromSoftware’s multiplayer direction.
Either way, this development signals that the studio has no intention of abandoning Nightreign and still sees long-term potential in expanding its multiplayer universe within the Elden Ring franchise.
