Metal Gear Solid ‘Fox Hunt’ Multiplayer Mode Launches in Fall with No Crossplay
KONAMI has confirmed that Fox Hunt, the long-anticipated multiplayer mode for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, will launch in the Fall season. However, the excitement comes with a drawback, as the official Japanese Metal Gear account on X confirmed that the mode will not support crossplay between platforms.
This limitation has already sparked concern among fans. Many note that launching a multiplayer add-on after the main game’s release could result in lower engagement, with some worrying that Fox Hunt risks being "dead on arrival" if the player base fragments across platforms.
A Mode Inspired by Metal Gear Online
According to KONAMI, Fox Hunt is inspired by the beloved Metal Gear Online and its Sneaking rule, one of the most popular gameplay modes from the franchise’s online history. The mode is described as:
“A thrilling, hide-and-seek-based, completely original online multiplayer experience. This unique Metal Gear online experience utilizes the central elements of the base game: camouflage and survival. The latest graphical enhancements amplify the tension of hide-and-seek to a whole new level.”
Fox Hunt places a heavy emphasis on stealth, camouflage, and tactical survival, aligning closely with the DNA of Metal Gear Solid itself.
Delta: Snake Eater Launches Soon
While Fox Hunt is positioned as an extra multiplayer experience, the true centerpiece remains the remake of Metal Gear Solid 3, which launches in two weeks on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S|X. Developed with the assistance of Virtuos, which also contributed to the Oblivion Remaster, MGS Delta: Snake Eater is powered by Unreal Engine 5.
The remake will preserve the essence of the 2004 classic while offering quality-of-life upgrades, including a modern control scheme alongside the original setup. Fans can expect visual fidelity improvements, cinematic refinements, and smoother gameplay while staying true to the spirit of one of the most iconic stealth games ever created.
Do you think KONAMI’s decision to exclude crossplay will hurt the long-term success of Fox Hunt, or will nostalgia and stealth-focused gameplay keep the community alive?
