Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater Comparisons Show Surprising Quality of pachislot Cutscenes
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is widely regarded as the definitive visual remake of Hideo Kojima’s iconic third entry, but recent comparisons highlight that the pachislot adaptation released years ago still holds up remarkably well, and in some aspects, even surpasses the new Unreal Engine 5 remake by Virtuos.
YouTuber Cycu1 shared two detailed comparison videos on their channel, putting Delta side-by-side with the HD remake by Bluepoint - re-released as part of the Master Collection Vol. 1 - and with cutscenes recreated for the pachislot version of the game.
While Delta’s real-time rendering in Unreal Engine 5 provides the most immersive and modernized presentation, the pachislot version surprises with exceptional pre-rendered cutscene quality, particularly in lighting and cinematic composition. In certain sequences, the pachislot visuals even outshine the remake, though this advantage comes from not being bound by real-time performance limitations.
Despite some technical setbacks at launch, such as a 60 FPS cap on PC (which can be bypassed with mods), Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater has been an immediate success. Konami confirmed last week that the game sold over one million copies on its first day, a testament to the enduring legacy of Snake Eater and fans’ enthusiasm for revisiting one of the franchise’s most beloved entries.
With the remake’s enhancements carefully balanced to preserve the essence of the original while improving visuals and gameplay fluidity, Snake Eater’s legacy only continues to grow.
Do you think Delta’s real-time fidelity outweighs the pachislot’s pre-rendered spectacle, or do the cutscenes show that Konami could have aimed even higher?
