Marvel Rivals to Introduce Marvel Zombies-Themed PvE Mode on October 23
NetEase Games has officially announced that its hit free-to-play 6v6 team-based third-person action game, Marvel Rivals, will receive its first-ever PvE mode on October 23, 2025. The new mode will take direct inspiration from Marvel Zombies, the four-episode adult animated miniseries that premiered on September 24 via Disney+.
In the announcement video, Danny Koo, Executive Producer at Marvel Games, shared that this new limited-time PvE experience will immerse players in a chaotic survival scenario where they must face off against endless hordes of zombies in an alternate Marvel universe overtaken by the undead.
“In this Marvel Zombies-inspired mode, you get to play as Thor, Blade, Magik, Jeff the Land Shark, and The Punisher, taking on endless waves of zombies,” said Koo. “You’ll have to survive the Horde, go toe-to-toe with zombie Namor and the Queen of the Dead as bosses, and fight to save the world from getting totally zombified. We’ve also given each hero some unique abilities. Charge through the hordes as Jeff, slice and dice with Blade’s bouncing Moon Blades, shock zombies with Thor in his persistent Awakened state, or go berserk as Magik in her unlimited Darkchild form. Showcase your epic combat skills against the zombie swarms and tough bosses.”
The Marvel Zombies mode will allow players to take on a new kind of challenge that deviates from the game’s competitive 6v6 multiplayer formula, offering an opportunity to team up cooperatively against AI-controlled enemies in intense, wave-based battles. Each hero has been reimagined with specialized combat mechanics and abilities tailored for the zombie horde gameplay, giving players fresh ways to strategize and showcase their mastery of different characters.
While NetEase has yet to reveal additional details such as the event’s duration or rewards, this marks a significant milestone for Marvel Rivals, as it continues to expand its content offerings and gameplay diversity. The addition of a PvE mode has been one of the most requested features by the community since the game’s debut, and this crossover event ties neatly into the Marvel Zombies franchise, known for its darker tone and apocalyptic storytelling.
Currently, Marvel Rivals is in its Season 4.5: Heart of the Dragon update, which introduced cross-platform progression, a long-awaited feature enabling players to maintain progress across multiple platforms. The update also added Daredevil as the game’s 43rd playable character. In Marvel Rivals, Daredevil serves as a combo-oriented Duelist, excelling in fast-paced close combat and agility, and even features a team-up ability with The Punisher, blending high mobility with tactical synergy.
The Marvel Zombies PvE event will mark the first step toward evolving Marvel Rivals into a more varied and dynamic experience, bridging cooperative and competitive gameplay while celebrating one of the most unique Marvel universes ever created.
