Kena Scars of Kosmora Moves to 2027 as Ember Lab Expands Its Next Adventure
Kena: Scars of Kosmora is now launching in 2027, moving beyond its original 2026 release window as Ember Lab gives the sequel additional development time. The studio confirmed the update through the PlayStation Blog, explaining that the team wants to deliver a more polished experience while expanding the scale beyond Kena: Bridge of Spirits.
The sequel was first announced in February for PlayStation 5 and PC, positioning Scars of Kosmora as a larger continuation of Ember Lab’s 2021 action adventure debut. The new update makes it clear that the project is still a character focused linear adventure, but with a broader structure, deeper exploration and more optional content for players who move beyond the main path.
"Pushing our release into 2027 gives us the ability to really polish the expanded game experience we want to deliver."

Scars of Kosmora takes Kena to the mysterious island of Kosmora, where her role as a Spirit Guide becomes more personal. Before the events of the sequel, Kena spent years training as both a warrior and spiritual healer, helping restless spirits move on while fighting the Corruption caused by unresolved pain. This time, the story appears to turn inward, with Kena exploring her own scars, her past and the future of what Spirit Guiding means for both the dead and the living.
The island of Kosmora is built around 4 elemental cultures and ancient Alchemystic Temples. Ember Lab says these temples will play a major role in the game, offering dungeon style challenges that test player skill and unlock transformative rewards. The world is also designed around living cultures with their own histories, conflicts and values, giving Kena new characters and regional stories that connect the island’s past with its present.
One of the biggest new gameplay additions is Kena’s crystalline canine companion. This ancient spirit acts as a mount for faster traversal across the larger world, but it is not only a movement tool. Ember Lab says the companion will also assist Kena in combat, both mounted and on foot, while playing a role in solving Alchemystic puzzles tied to Kosmora’s history and elemental design.
The game remains confirmed for PlayStation 5 and PC. PlayStation 5 will receive both physical and digital editions, while PC will launch digitally. With a wider world, new traversal systems and expanded temple based challenges, Scars of Kosmora is shaping up as a more ambitious follow up that builds directly on the cinematic identity and emotional tone of Bridge of Spirits.
A move into 2027 is not surprising given the expanded scope Ember Lab is describing. Kena: Bridge of Spirits already stood out through its animation quality, cinematic presentation and emotional tone, but Scars of Kosmora appears to be aiming for a more confident sequel rather than a safe repeat. The crystalline canine mount, elemental temples and stronger focus on Kena’s personal journey suggest a game that wants to grow mechanically and narratively without abandoning the charm that made the original memorable.
Are you happy to wait until 2027 if it means Kena: Scars of Kosmora delivers a bigger and more polished adventure?
