HOTEL BARCELONA, the New Game from SWERY and SUDA51, Launches This September on PC and Consoles

Indie studio White Owls Inc. has announced that HOTEL BARCELONA, the long-anticipated collaboration between legendary game creators Hidetaka “Swery” Suehiro (Deadly Premonition, The Good Life) and Goichi “SUDA51” Suda (Killer7, No More Heroes), will officially launch in September 2025 for PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

The Steam page is now live, allowing fans to wishlist the game ahead of its release.

Described as a 2.5D slasher sidescroller with roguelite and action elements, HOTEL BARCELONA plunges players into a surreal horror-action world situated on the Pennsylvania–West Virginia border. What appears to be a luxury hotel is in fact a trap for some of America’s most dangerous serial killers.

Players take on the role of Justine, a rookie federal marshal burdened with a dark secret—her mind is mysteriously linked to the deranged Dr. Carnival, a notorious killer with a twisted past. Together, they must face and eliminate the Seven Slash Killers scattered throughout the hotel’s treacherous landscape.

Each of the game’s seven levels is inspired by a unique horror subgenre, from haunted mansions to grotesque laboratories, each culminating in a cinematic boss fight. In true roguelite fashion, death is not the end. Every time Justine falls, a memory of her run—called a Slasher Phantom—is created. These echoes copy her previous actions, and players can tactically use them as shields, allies, or strategic tools in future runs.

A new gameplay trailer was released alongside the announcement, showing off the game’s bloody, stylish action and twisted art direction—hallmarks of both creators’ previous work.

In addition to its single-player campaign, HOTEL BARCELONA also features online multiplayer elements. A co-op mode for up to three players allows teamwork through missions, while a PvP mode introduces a fourth player as a world invader, offering a high-stakes game of cat and mouse where the hunted may become the hunter.

Attendees of Japan’s largest indie game expo, BitSummit XIII: Summer of Yōkai, can play HOTEL BARCELONA from July 18 to 20 at Miyako Messe, Kyoto. The demo will include the opening stage and its first boss encounter—Jacob, a psychotic, baseball-obsessed killer who strikes every few years at the hotel's nearby field.

With the combined creativity of Swery and Suda51, HOTEL BARCELONA promises to be one of 2025’s most unique and bizarre horror action games.
